Whole Sick - Guy Fawkes Mixxx - November 2008

In July a DJ called Whole Sick got in touch in with me and KMD about doing a mix for Trash and we were like ‘yes please’. Summer kicked in, we got rained on at festivals, while Whole Sick - who’s real name is Justin Reid-Simm - relaxed in Italy, then destroyed mind, body and soul in Ibiza. Oh yeah.

Not heard of Whole Sick? This oh-so-young DJ is the latest resident at the Kool Kids Klub in Southend and also holds a residency at the Bigger Than Barry night in Nottingham.

He’s managed to squeeze the billing with an impressive list of artists including: Boy 8-Bit, Heavyfeet, Andy George, Urchins, Kissy Sell Out, Sinden, Drop the Lime, DIM, Mumdance, L-Vis 1990, Foamo, Fake Blood, Annie Mac, Kazey, Kidda, Herve, Oneman, Detboi, Mememe, Tomb Crew, AC Slater and Hostage.

Makes you drool, doesn’t it? And when not djing, Whole Sick is a nice young man who goes to uni, which is sweet.

You can catch him dj in Southend, Nottingham or London.

14 Nov 2008 - Dollop: Herve, Foamo, Tvyks & more@ Stealth, Nottingham
15 Nov 2008 - Kool Kids Klub: Detboi, Urchins & residents @ The Sunroom, Southend
21 Nov 2008 - Bigger Than Barry: Shorterz, Blacksmile & more @ Market Bar, Nottingham
11 Dec 2008 - Wispa: Foamo, Urchins & more TBC @ Last Days of Decadence, London
20 Dec 2008 - Kool Kids Klub: Hostage & more TBC @ The Sunroom, Southend

To commemorate Guy Fawkes Night (the English version of Fourth of July), Whole Sick has knocked out this sweet little mix just to warm us up. Think burning effigies, fireworks, sparklers and skyscraper pyres.

I did notice that Whole Sick’s mix has three of the same tracks as the Foamo mix Lovestar just posted (Mystery Jets, Evil Nine, A.C Slater), which is a coincidence - I know it may seem like sloppy seconds, but it’s a boon for the lovers out there.

A Very Vanilla Mix from London’s Lesser Panda

Received this sexy little mix from London art rocker sweeties George and Fenner from Lesser Panda, who we featured - gosh, was it only back in Janurary? - to celebrate their new release, single “Carousel/Ghostdance” which debuts on 13th October 2008 !

If you get gooey and nostalgic over the great tunes from the 80s like the Cure, Talking Heads, Smiths and Psychadelic Furs, you’ll LOVE Lesser Panda - and you can catch a sneak of “Carousel” on this mix, which has also been featured on fellow music blog Fried my little brain - nice one.

Enjoy!

ps - is vanilla a euphemism for something or am i just being thick? yes, probably.

Drop The Lime Fabric Mix!

Drop The Lime is truly on fire. His latest EP ‘Like Thunder‘ is out on Trouble & Bass Records now. Coming 9th July, you’ll find his talents featured on the upcoming ‘Machines Don’t Care’ LP. And the monthly party he throws with the Trouble & Bass crew at Love in Manhattan, has blown up! It seems absolutely nothing is stopping our favorite basshead and that’s fine with us!

Here’s DTL’s last live Fabric mix from March and some older interesting footage of him dancing somewhere in the green fields of what looks to be England? Love the glove and the animals. Catch DTL back at Fabric Friday 4th July along with Switch, Sinden, Scratch Perverts, Toddla T and special guests! This just in Room 1 – Pendulum and more in Room 2!
