Mix Selection from Lars Moston

Lars

So the back story to the previous post on how I met Lars Moston.

I went to Berlin in April. Before I went, I was talking to Mister Sushi about good places to check out, and he said, ‘Oh you definitely have to meet my mate . He knows the city like the back of his hand.’

Well, it’s always the way: when you’re visiting people, you’re more or less hostage to their plans and schedules, but after a couple of myspace messages, Lars invited me round on my last day for some tea.

On the last day, I hopped on the train at Alexander-platz and headed over to the east part of the city.

The city landscape shifted dramatically during the half hour train journey, from downtown urbanness to ramshackle plots of land and chaotic buildings. It was a cold and rainy and dark day. Lars’ flat was in a row of terraced pastel-coloured buildings, two floors up, where he lived with his girlfriend. It was a chilled-out and spacious flat with a view across to the river.

As we shared a pot of tea, we talked about different party scenes and music around Europe. Lars told me he played at Breakspoll this year, and he’s got a couple of UK dates this summer, including festival in Jersey.

In Germany, he DJs weekly in Berlin and he also parties regularly with electro acts such as 2 Many DJs, Boys Noize, Hell, Tiga, Felix da Housecat, Surkin, Moonbootica, and Crookers as part of his residency at Cologne’s Loonyland.

Even though Lars is in his early twenties, he’s been DJing and producing and promoting for a while and has got loads of his own projects on the way: stuff with Moston & Malente and The Killergroove Formula, plus his own solo projects.

In March “What Now” was released on Kisu Music, with remixes from Malente, Fukkk Offf and Bastian Heerhorst, and in April, “Jack It!” came out on Freakz Me Out Rec. / Q Distribution and includes remixes from Acid Jacks and Daniel Dexter vs Nhan Solo. Good stuff!

Here are the two tracks to check out, plus two mixes to take away.

“Jack It!” is a deceptively easy 4/4, stripped-down tune with a flickering wash of sound and an even bassline.

“What Now” is an edgy techno song that sums up that horrible Monday drudge, very dark and heavy and industrial.

Tvyks

Plastique

We don’t hear all too much coming out of what is said to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Prague, so it’s nice to know that they’ve got someone like Tvyks keeping everyone up with the latest noise and his well known parties!!

“Tvyks has become a landmark to whoever is interested in the energy rush arriving from the east. DJ, producer, party organiser, radio speaker, graphic designer, this exciting young Czech man wears many hats placing his affined knowledge of the electronic scene at the service of his passion for music.

Co-founder of the Plastique at Radost FX club and Boom Bang Baby! Prague’s nights, that are so wild the bobbies have to get out of bed! Thanks to the extremely warm public the unique atmosphere Tvyks parties have already been the heaven for bands and live acts such as D.I.M., Mixhell, Headman, Rex The Dog, Lo-Fi-Fnk, Adam Sky, Bunny Lake, Terry Poison, Naive New Beaters, Vicarious Bliss, Jo Jo De Freq, Franz & Shape or Namosh.

His collaboration with Swedish producer Hakan Lidbo resulted in a 12 inch released in spring 2002 by the world’s famous Paperecordings under name “Norr/Vychod”.

Aside from French Connection on Radio 1, Tvyks’ latest endeavour is his current collaboration with the Czech singer & musician Gregory Finn. Their Re:ply! project has already led to a single “How Much Is The Milk?” and several remixes for Cassius, Dead Kids, The Kilians and Midi Lidi.

Finally as a DJ, Tvyks benefits from a rich 15 years experience behind the decks of some of the finest clubs across Europe. Digging from multiple sources he selects the ultimate sounds within the trends in order to provide the audience with fresh and sharp mixes. His inspiration varies from house to electro, passing through disco punk, batty bass to acid house, grime and baile funk leading to a powerful head banging feet thumping mix. This is the maximum sound”.
