Slackers Convention’s 6th Birthday - THIS WEEKEND IN BRIGHTON!

slackers 6th birthday poster

Okay folks, a shameless dirty plug for my friend’s monthly club night - The Slackers Convention - and it’s their 6th Birthday on Saturday 16th August @ Concorde 2, Madeira Drive, Brighton.

In the Main Room they’ve got Body Snatchers - (30Hz and Baobinga) - Live Show, Ill Audio - Live 6 Piece ElectroBreaks along with residents Matt Slackers & Chris Dirtpop, Pav & Lucas, Capcom Ninja and stunning visuals from my homeboy VJ Spank.

In the Bar, there’s turntablist wizardry from Brighton’s favorite DMC champ, JFB (DMCs, Battlejam), plus Dirtbomb (Playboys), Statikedge (Flawless, Breakdown), Moif (Brap FM, Brighton Breaks), and DJ Y-Not (Slackers).

UNFORTUNATELY, I won’t be there in my every-present mode on the door (duties elsewhere call), but the night is sure to see all the crew and the regulars, who’ve kept the party alive since its front room days, on TOP TOP FORM!!!!!!!!!!! get in xxxxxxxxxx

DURRR at The End, London

DURR

DURRR happens every Monday night at The End, West Central Street, London, WC1. Resident DJs Rory Phillips, The Lovely Jonjo and Our Man Fred play a mixture of underground sounds and dancefloor dynamite across two rooms.

Every week Hanna Hanra djs in the live room and on the first Monday of the month she is joined by her partner in crime Princess Julia as THE P.I.X. Expect frequent live bands, guest DJs and secret surprises!!

Also… visit durrr.co.uk for details of how to WIN signed Erol Alkan goodies & Video Hippos albums!

23rd JUNE (return of the Alkan)

WHITEY (LIVE)
Underground legend Whitey hits the stage for a rare London club appearance tonight in anticipation of new album ‘StayOn The Outside’, which will be with us later in the year. Always special and never dull, make sure you don’t miss this one!

VIDEO HIPPOS (LIVE)
Baltimore’s Video Hippos make lo-fi indie gems, reminiscent of Sonic Youth, Animal Collective and shoegazy things like MBV, only with more drum machines and casio bothering. They also have a song with the exellent title ‘Piss Traction’, which makes us giggle. Check out their myspace for a couple of downloadables….

EROL ALKAN (DJ SET)
Erol joins us once more for what is sure to be another fine display of L’Arte de Dee Jay. Fresh from producing LOTP’s debut album, and about to head off into festival land, catch what will be one of his few club gigs of the summer. If you don’t know how good he is at what he does by now, you’re an idiot. Come and join us as we annoy grammarians by using the word ‘party’ as a verb….

Upcoming
30th JUNE

PNAU (LIVE)
Aussie chart botherers PNAU are well known down under for providing ears with super sexy sampled-up dance wonderment. Recent single ‘Baby’ has been turning heads all over the place, so come down and see just what these guys are doing so well that everyone wants a piece of them!

A TRAK (DJ SET)
Canadian Hip Hop wunderkind A Trak is a turntable legend. The youngest ever DMC World DJ Champion (at 15), he runs the Fool’s Gold label, has worked closely with Kanye West on various things and ran the Audio Research label with his brother (the one with the ‘tache in Chromeo). He’s recently remixed Bonde De Role, Architecture In Helsinki and Digitalism amongst many others. You won’t get many chances to see him in the UK outside of a festival tent, so don’t miss!

Stag and Dagger

Stag&Dagger

Stag and Dagger is proof that the music scene in the U.K. is about the best there is anywhere. Held on the 15th May in East London, the lineup on this one is incredible. At the end of this night, they may consider renaming the event to DAG & STAGGERING! Fuck. I’m living in the wrong country.

“Stag & Dagger is a “One ticket gives access to all” annual festival that will allow 5000 music lovers in the Shoreditch area access to over 100 of the best new live music acts, DJs, art shows and film screenings. The event will take place in over 15 official festival venues over the course of one evening and is brought to you by Adventures in the Beetroot Field and Margaret, in association with VICE magazine“.
