the BOX is ON

Who doesn’t enjoy a good Bordeaux, especially when it comes to music? Boxon Records is Julien Minet’s dirty sexy record label out of Bordeaux, France that features prominent music artists (Tom Deluxx, Eclier, Toxic Avenger, Philipe de Boyer, Pro7, etc), and the incredible graphic designer Anem.

If you like teeth grinding, head banging, body shaking electro-trash music then this next one is for you. Coming out in late September, I had a sneak peak at the new Boxon album and it is fanfreakintastic. There are two separate and distinctive mixes of Tom Deluxx’sMushion Heroes” on here and they are both pure goodness. Who are the faces behind them?

First is Philipe de Boyar, the Suisse DJ/Producer who does a mixture of House/Electro/Breaks. He’s not a newbie to the scene, having already had tracks popping up in MIXMAG and is set to have releases on Erase Records, Hammarskjoeld Records or his own digital imprint Rockville Music as well as other labels. His version of “Mushion Hereos” is slap-in-your-face hard and reminiscent of the same energy you get with the Toxic Avenger.

The other version is by Pro7, an international party player who has already tricked with the likes of Sebastian, Teenage Bad Girl, TTC, and more. His version is very slightly lighter than the de Boyar one, with a little funky feel. Caution: these two tracks are not at all to be confused with each other, even if they stem from the same original! They are completely different takes and both quite enjoyable. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear them both pounding in clubs in the next 2-3 months.

Also from Boxon as of late, the latest video from Paris production company Born To Film of the Toxic Avenger’s “Bad Girls Need Love, Too”. It captures perfectly the style of Toxic — edgy electro with a rock feel. Tattooed ladies and Lolita like nymphs are in the video rocking out in this beautifully shot video clip with amazing color saturation. C’est tellement sexy et j’adore!

In other news, Boxon veteran Tom Deluxx has a new EP coming out this October, and I’m on the edge of my seat to hear it, especially if it sounds anything like the remix he sent us, “Fake” by GRS Club, who also have an EP arriving this October!

Putain c’est la classe! Anem is doing the artwork for the album. Including the fresh preview up top Boxon sent us!

ADO!

ado

The much hyped ranks of hard electro continue to swell with fresh talent eager to join the brigadiers of the new noise (see: BOYS NOIZE, SEBASTIAN, JUSTICE, THE BLOODY BEETROOTS, THE TOXIC AVENGER, CHARLIE FANCLUB, LILLICA LIBERTINE, THE PROXY, CHEWY CHOCOLATE COOKIES, BUSY P, FELIX CARTAL et al) who continue to purvey their head-banging dance music to an increasingly evangelical congregation of binary head-bangers. One such new talent seeking to preach the hard electro gospel is 23 year old Adrian Glen, aka ADO! of Dundee, Scotland.

Sighting the release of the seminal PRODIGY album “Music For The Jilted Generation” in 1995 as probably the single most important influence on his musical tastes, Adrian has been in hardcore music making mode ever since. He got his hands on his first pair of decks at age 16, blagged a loan to get his first laptop at 21 and now 2 years later the first clutch of raucous ADO! atom bombs are ready to drop and they are nothing short of incendiary.

But, the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say, so sample on us the living dead stomp of “Ctrl*Alt*Defeat” and serrated disco ball miasma of “Shit Talking DJ’s“, both available for download below. Currently back in his sweatbox home studio slaving away on more ADO! carnage, this August Adrian will also launch ‘Ctrl*Alt*Defeat‘ the club night at Dundee’s Reading Rooms. When asked who he’d most like to collaborate with Adrian mentioned those BLOODY BEETROOTS, so if you’re listening boys…

It’s That Beat!

Playdoe

If you weren’t already playing it loud, you’re definitely going to want to “pump up the volume”, on Playdoe’s latest, “It’s That Beat“, remixed by the Toxic Avenger!! This one will undeniably ignite the dance floor with it’s electro-pop speed and Spoek’s super cool flow!!

Sibot aka DJ Fuck and Spoek, are bringin the beat with their new EP, “Sibot & Spoek are PLAYDOE“, out on French label, Jarring Effects. Both South African artists have extensive musical backgrounds – Sibot, in big beat, turntablism, sound design and TV commercial music and Spoek, on collaborations with MC Max Normal, as well as rhyme extraordinaire, one half of the super hype, Sweat.X!! The two also share individual quality music time with, Markus Wormstorm, of The Real Estate Agents (Markus+Sibot project) and Sweat.X.

Toxic?? Well, there isn’t much to say about The Toxic Avenger that hasn’t already been said. He is unstoppable and always delivers! This remix will undoubtedly have you doing some full on head nodding!!

Defeat!

ToxicAvengerMay

It has been a while since the last feature on The Toxic Avenger and the timing couldn’t be better as he has sent over his latest grinder of a track, “Defeat!“, as well as some exciting updates!! To say that the Toxic Avenger has been working, would be an understatement. He has been relentless at gigging in the U.S. and Europe and still finding time to create new music, remixes and prepare for his forthcoming EP and LP.

Having just finished off 2 new remixes, Ladytron’s “Ghost” and one for South African group Playdoe, (side project of Spoek of Sweat.X + Sibot), Toxic is set to release his EP, 26th of May on Boxon Records. The EP will contain 4 brand new songs. “Bad Girls Need Love Too“, with remixes of the track by Les petits pilous and Leonard de Leonard. The 4th song is titled ” __________”. (that is the name) For now, you can have a listen to all of them at Toxie’s Myspace.

With a cast of talent collaborating on the video for “Bad Girls Need Love Too”, it looks to be a visual masterpiece! Styled by esteemed Parisian fashion designer, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, (also known as JC/DC), who has dressed some of our favorites, including M.I.A. and Yelle, we can expect to see some colorful pop art inspired fashion!

Borntofilmclip

The above image is a video-clip of The Toxic Avenger – “Bad Girls Need Love Too”, created by Mathieu Danet of the talented Born To Film team. The video was shot in Paris on 7th of April, and is due out at the beginning of May. The EP photo cover was created by Hélène Giansily and the cover design by Anem. The model in the video is a young French girl named Solweig.

Toxic is also working on his LP, which he is hoping to have out sometime in late 08′ off iheartcomix. If you happen to find yourself hanging out in Aix, South of France, the 28th of June, festivities will ensue with the likes of: MSTRKRFT, The Bloody Beetroots, Vicarious Bliss, Les petits pilous (LIVE), Toxic Avenger, Strip Steve, Uffie (LIVE), Paraone (LIVE) and ER2 (LIVE). Looks to be a swell time!

The Frail Prepare for the Floor

TheFrail

Typically, you will find me listening to music that is a bit rough around the edges. Past, think Minor Threat, Descendents, Gorilla Biscuits. Present, The Death Set, Infants, Dead Kids. Music that is doused with a bit of hardcore and punk that has shaped a lot of the rowdier music I listen to. There is the less abrasive, sweet, endearing music that is melancholic, good-natured and has a wide appeal to many these days. If you are The Frail and you have producers such as The Toxic Avenger and DoBERMAN tweaking some of your tunes, you’re sure to get some proper distorted dancefloor appeal!

Emerging out of San Francisco a little over a year ago, indie electro-pop duo Daniel Lannon and Kevin Durr combined their efforts to create a charming sound and called themselves The Frail. A few short months later, they put out their first 4 track EP, “Count on This” and a month after, signed to local label, Tricycle Records. They just did a West coast tour and are hitting the East coast in June. They’ll be back in the studio in between time, to finish up their next 5-6 track EP, “Firefly”.

So what can we expect? “Firefly” will have some older reworked material as well as some brand new surprises in store! As The Frail continue to explore and grow, they’ve been experimenting with a few producers who are giving them a harder edge that is sure to end up on the dirty dancefloor. With a new remix by The Toxic Avenger and a few others being remixed by the likes of Buddy Akai, Dj Shh, DoBERMAN, (likin what he did with “Count on This”) LeRaided, After Midnight and perhaps one by Villains, The Frail are heading towards some new unchartered territory!

Check their My Space for updates, tour dates, other songs and remixes and if you’re in San Francisco, CA on 22nd of April, catch them at the Independent (ticket + rsvp info here) alongside The Teenagers!!

(both mp3’s are 160 kbs or lower)

Fuck Exclusive, be Exposed!!!!

PokerFace

“Please spread the joy of kick ass music” – iheartcomix
We agree. What is sacred on the vast internet of music blogs? Anything? Or nothing. What is the most important thing for any and all artists of today? GETTING THEIR MUSIC EXPOSED through as many channels as possible!!!!! So to those that deem ‘EXCLUSIVE’ the ultimate, end all be all, it’s a hyped up word. Who wants to be ‘exclusive?’ For exclusive means nothing when there is a world of music fiends spanning this globe for music to saturate their brains with!!!! Those that have the attention span of a rat that may skip or miss a blog with the ‘exclusive’, just might catch it on another!! And for that alone my dear trashy faced friends (had to nab that Hostage) is why EXPOSURE for all music is the NEW BLACK and ‘EXCLUSIVE’ is on a fast pace to death!

With that, we welcome “Poker Face” by one of our favs, The Toxic Avenger, remixed by Dylan (Le Castle Vania) and Blake Miller (Moving Units/Weird Science) of Lies in Disguise. A fantastic track that has become decked out with this rework. Harder? YES. Dirtier? YES. Faster? YES. “We really went for a nice dirty vibe on this one with a hard crunchy bass line, some nice builds, hard drops and then of course i threw in some nice tweaky acid synths for good measure” – Le Castle Vania

What’s ahead? Toxic has a new EP coming out on Boxon Records on 26 of May and his full length will be out on iheartcomix in November. Thx for sharing with the world, boys! xx

MarchTrash

I feel it is of high importance to let you all know that it has taken a long fucking time to compile all 65 features that the entire TRASH clan has worked up during the month of MARCH. MARCH marks an entire year of madness for TRASH MENAGERIE and we haven’t stopped to breathe just yet. We’ve swooped into your lives to take over and give you something to do whilst passing the time. Beyond the amount of content that is growing, TRASH is now armed with a few more contributors. This just means more top-shelf features from a few more music lovers. We’ll strive to continue to bring you loads of MUSIC that we each love for whatever reasons and also find the time to pick the brains of the talent behind said MUSIC (time permitting). We’ve got 2 new sections to your right, MIXES and LISTINGS. Get to know each for all the right reasons. Lastly, the TRASH TALK FORUM has sprung a new life and will be back in FULL FORCE. We’ll also try our very best to not BOLD every word like I just did to emphasize what is important in life: TRASH and MUSIC (until it’s ingrained in your heads).

The Fire and Reason vs. The Toxic Avenger: Distortion Begets Distortion

THE FIRE AND REASON!!!!

The bottom line is The Fire and Reason rock. I’m not sure I’ve heard anyone since The Mooney Suzuki who rock anywhere near as hard as these guys. And what’s more, they add a touch of the industrial to their already hectic sound which might make them my favorite band of recent times. I absolutely love the warmth of the distortion in their leads and Bella’s voice is like a more guttural, No Doubt era Gwen Stefani.

So, what do you do when you’ve got all this going for you? Why its simple. You go out and get an equally hectic distortion laiden, french gentleman, The Toxic Avenger, to take your tune and wind it so tight that, when unleashed, it destroys every dancefloor within 39 miles of the speakers. Toxie managed to keep enough of the original to maintain its hectic energy while adding his own dose of edits and chops to push the tune over the edge, a handsome feat for any remixer. This remix is fantastic.

The Fire and Reason - NME (Toxic Avenger rmx)

If you want more of The Fire and Reason head over to iTunes or CDBaby and pick up their self-titled, five track EP. And, according to their myspace, they’re back in the studio again so I’m sure a whole nother dose of high energy rock and roll is due from them very soon.

Toxic Avenger in Rolling Stone!

ToxicRollingStone

Having only been around for 10 months now, you could say that Trash Menagerie is a bit of an underdog as compared to the mainstream giant, RollingStone. Nevertheless, it feels good to know that Simon DeLacroix, known to most as “The Toxic Avenger,” was well on our radar long before Rolling Stone recognized him for his talent. We’re on the forefront as tastemakers, discovering new music that is defining the current moment.

Click the link for past features of The Toxic Avenger on Trash Menagerie, and the Ludo Escrime – Le Coq Sportif site for some sickkk graphics and an instrumental sample of a Toxic track!! Choose either Le Camp Rouge or Le Camp Vert to hear music. We’re very happy for our friend! Congratulations Simon!!!!

Chewy Chocolate Cookies alert!

Cookie

One might dub me “Cookie Monster”, as I have a whole lot of love for all things chocolate, especially cookies. Beyond my love for cookies, the semi recent remix of The Toxic Avenger, “Superheroes”, by “Chewy Chocolate Cookies“, is a tasty treat that holds a lot less calories than the real thing!! And here I thought my brain might be taking a mini break from the distorted sounds that I tend to love and have been around the past year – Well not so soon.

“Do not overbake”, is the motto of the the CCC producers, one part Londoner, one part Parisian, who are mixing it up just right, and working on a January 08 EP release, “Pepites”, on top French label, Ekler’o’shock. They’ve been working hard on their perfectly made batches, and have more than a few remixes of several of our favorite artists, which include, and are available for download on their My Space page. GASP!! I’ve had their remix of Loto - “Back to disco” looped on my player since hearing it. Grab the DL from Australian blog mates, The Kids from Trashbags.

REMIXES
Simian Mobile Disco - “Hotdog” CCC rmx
Justice - “Genesis” CCC rmx
Digitalism - “Idealistic” CCC rmx
Chromeo - “Bonafied Lovin” CCC rmx
DJ Medhi - “Saharian Break” CCC rmx
The Toxic Avenger - “Superheroes” CCC rmx
Digitalism - “Pogo” CCC rmx
Robyn - “Handle Me” CCC rmx
Justice - “The party” CCC rmx
DJ DLG - “Paramount” CCC rmx

Thatsa lotta cookies!! And as if the list wasn’t big enough, here is some massive tunage you should be on watch for –
CCC “Time” (Ekler’o’shock)
Cazals “Life is Boring” CCS rmx (Kitsuné)
Danger “11h30″ CCC rmx (Ekler’o’shock) – (Feature of Danger on the way!)
Plastic Operator - “Home0207″ CCC rmx (Fine Day Records)
Loto - “Back to disco” CCC rmx (Loto)
Chose Chaton - “Mousseline noire” CCC rmx (Discolala Records)

Their production work includes, Time, Profondo Rosso, Cheeseburgers, Profondo Rosso Mixhell Rmx, and Cheeseburgers Xerak Rmx. Well fuck. I think I’ve managed to get it all, for now that is!

October Whirlwind!

Justice

I’ve been skint on postings and this is why – My birthday, which fell on Tuesday October 10, had pushed itself well into the next week, finally ending today over a spectacular lunch at “Pierrot Gourmet” at The Peninsula, Chicago. Way to stretch it! Does it ever end? I welcomed fall with a delish salad consisting of: Mixed California greens, arugula, port wine mission figs, pine nuts, mixed with balsamic vinaigrette, and topped with 2 large phyllo pastries stuffed with brie! Divine!!

What a whirlwind 2 weeks and somehow I felt extremely lazy this past Wednesday and skipped seeing my absolute favorite, Erol Alkan!! (Justice and Midnight Juggernauts also on the bill earlier) What the hell was I thinking?! Ah this just gives me reason to book a ticket to the U.K. and catch him out there!! Also, a fun time was had at the Toxic Avenger event at Buddha, on 10.16. Thanks to all that made it a memorable one!! Here are some snapshots of the past week, taken by our dear friend, Clayton Hauck of everyoneisfamous.
