L-Vis 1990 FabricLive mix

Fabric’s tossed us this great mix from L-Vis 1990 as a little taster to his gig on Friday 5th June as part of FabricLive.

Looks like they’ve pulled in the nearest and dearest of UK’s finest and freshest – Radio1 legend Rob Da Bank, Sinden, Radioclit, Toddla T, it’s all sounding good – plus they’ve booked hands-down show must-have-of-the-year, Brighton’s legendary beatboxer Beardyman, who just won best live act at Breakspoll 2009. See it to believe it.

I forsee a long fun night steered by bass freaks, wonky movers and a balmy cigarette-tinged summer’s evening.

In the meantime, don’t burn yourself on this mix – I’ve listened to it a few times too many already. Would love to pontificate on it, but bed (UK time) beckons.

Room 1: GET FAMILIAR
Sinden, Duke Dumont, Toddla T & MC Serocee, Radioclit, De Tropix (Live), SBTRKT (Salvia/XL)

Room 2: ROB DA BANK & FRIENDS
Lemonage (Live), Beardyman (Live), Tim Exile (Live), Rob Da Bank, L-Vis 1990

Room 3: ASBO
Serge Santiago, Riotous Rockers, Alvin C

Fabric, 10pm-6am, £13/10 students & fabricfirst/ £6 after 3am. Nab your tickets off ticketweb or direct from Fabric.

SOUNDCLASH CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!

Get your boxing gloves on, Soundclash Championships (formerly “The Official UK iPod Battle”) are back and arming themselves with some serious players!! M.I.A. and friends currently hold the Official Soundclash Champion title, who will take the crown in 2009?!

8 teams – 8 MP3 players – 3 tournament rounds – 1 fighting cage – 1 decibel meter

Hosted and refereed by Teki Latex (TTC) and Marawa The Amazing (La Clique), Soundclash is set to take place on Tuesday 9th June, at the Bloomsbury Ballroom, with an amazing line-up ready to get the crowd cheering for their win!!

The way it goes down – Two by two, the teams enter the arena and battle head-to-head: 4 tracks per team, from their MP3 players. As the stakes get higher, so do the screams of the crowd. Judging is simple: the winning team makes the crowd scream loudest. The decibel meter decides. Teams can’t win without digging deep in the crates and thinking outside the box. Expect crazy hype, fancy costumes and high tension!!

LINE-UP –
Crookers & Friends
Sinden, Martelo, Toddla T & Oneman
Girlcore & Shingai (Noisettes)
Bugged Out! & Very Special Guests
Zezi Ifore (C4 / FBC), MistaJam (1Xtra/BBC), Raf Daddy & Brains
Todd Hart (Dalston Oxfam Shop) & Matthew Stone (!WOWOW!)
Skill Wizard & Shitting Fists
Nova Dando, Henry Holland, & Anna Trevelyan (Dazed)

DJ’s – Radioclit, Broken Hearts

Team Hostesses – Fancy Chance (Alternative Miss World 2009), Scottee, Alice W*A*M*P, The-O, Gateaux Chocolate + More

20% of ticket sales goes towards a charity chosen by the previous year’s winning team. This year’s Soundclash will go to Youth Action International, to help support the building of a much needed school in Liberia, as chosen by M.I.A. & Friends. Everybody wins!

Since it’s festival season all around the globe and we’re all about throwing FREEEEEE things at you, Trash is giving out tickets to 2 lucky winners. One for you, one for your guest!! It’s easy, just email us at: trashmenagerie AT gmail DOT com with Soundclash Champions in the subject line. Are you ready to rumble?!?!

CONGRATS to our WINNERS – Emily Goddard and Natasha Tan!!!

To get you geared up, Martelo sent over a mixtape he did for Trinotron back in January. Still a good one!!

DETBOI – THE IRISH BASS MONKEY

Detboi - The Hooligan Eskimo

Detboi is a freak. A bass freak! Ask the man himself “What is a Detboi?” and he’ll give you a straight answer: “Someone who tried out for Boyzone and never made it”. It’s obvious to everyone that Louis Walsh missed a trick there!!! But with Boyzone reforming for a few last ditch recession essential penny pinching concerts, i think it’s definately time for this Irish star to shine… cue spotlight.

With a look similar to that of an Aye-aye (google it), a sound as fruity as mangoes and a luck that would rival Noel edmonds with a bunch of numbered boxes you know you’re onto a sure winner. So, you’re probably wondering why you haven’t already heard of the young man? Well it’s quite simple says detboi, “Cos im not making dubstep. innit. rewind. Im big in the Philippines tho”. And if the Philippines say “Hey” then you, must surely say “Ho!”

Enough of this nonsense! Get on and listen to the music…..

Oh and please don’t forget to annoy detboi on his myspace with your Aye-aye impersonations.

Detboi – Cheap Thrills EP Preview

Last but not least: “Jungle Steppers” – from Herve’s Ghetto Bass mix CD

Hervé and partner-in-crime Sinden, the original London rude boys

London producer and DJ Hervé has issued “Jungle Stepper” – the last track on his newly released 36-track mix CD “Ghetto Bass”" – as a little teaser for us all.

The CD which was released on 16 February, sounds like a big ol’ dirty mashup, with loads of his remixes and sound that spans the party genres: bassline, electro, dnb, dubstep and house (see tracklisting below). The CD is packed full of crowd-pleasers, such as Fake Blood’s “Mars”, Mr Oizo’s “Gay Dentist”, Rico Tubbs, and a remix of an original party tune, Human Resource’s “Dominator”.

“Jungle Steppers” is kinda what you’d expect – dub-drenched tune with a jungle breakdown, it’s a squelchy track that gets better once the break kicks in.

Never heard of Hervé? Known to his mates as Joshua Harvey, he also records under a multitude of monikers: The Count, Voodoo Chilli, Action Man, Dead Soul Brothers, Speaker Junk and Young Lovers – and possibly more.

Hervé hangs out in his house/studio a lot and occasionally leave London to DJ out (see dates below), sometimes producing sidekick Sinden. He also runs a record label in his spare time called Cheap Thrills.

It might help if I mention that he made the ubiquitous “Beeper” tune that’s run rampant across the garage/bassline land – see, now the penny drops! Get familiar on Beatport.
