Lincolnup – Subsubtropical 2

Since being in San Francisco I’ve watched my native Pacific Northwest begin to flourish as place for forward-thinking dance music. Just recently Nguzunguzu duo graced stages in both Seattle and Portland, and New Years will see a visit from uk producer and co-owner of the Hessle Audio label Ramadanman. These two artists are among 2010′s best new producers, each with their own take on what it means to be related to genres like house, uk garage, or r&b.

As much as these artists deserve our brightest accolades, so too do the promoters and DJs who play host to them. Often these individuals will make little to no money, play to empty crowds, or be driven from their venues due to any number of unfortunate circumstances. One such outfit of bass ambassadors is the Bubblin’ crew located in Portland, Oregon. Made up of DJs Ben Tactic (of the Tactic production duo with co-producer Brent Tactic) and Lincolnup, Bubblin’ has single-handedly injected faith into the hearts of Portland clubgoers.

This mix, from Lincolnup, is one that reminds the west coast (and the world) that U.S. cities are representing for a new world order of international, inter-webbed, and intergalactic sounds that undoubtedly point to the future. Mixed live, Lincolnup blends everything from Tribal Guarachero hero Erick Rincon to equally teenage Northwest-native Cedaa‘s Juke inspired rhythms.

Check Lincolnup’s tracklist and download the mix from the Bubblin’ Soundcloud below. And keep an eye on Bubblin’ and the Northwest-family in 2011 as their ripples will surely continue to be felt.

Delphic, Doubt and Acolyte

To say that 2009 has been a good year for Manchester dance outfit Delphic, would be an understatement. The band have had a slew of highlights which include their single “Counterpoint” released this past April 2009 via Belgian electronic imprint R & S Records and produced by the UK’s Ewan Pearson. “Counterpoint (Delphic’s En Route Remix)”, appeared on compilation #7 of the chic French indie label Kitsuné Maison. Their second single “This Momentary” via Kitsuné, was released this past August, and shortly after, a Kitsuné Maison tour across the UK followed.

The BBC News have declared Delphic as one the “Sounds of 2010″, and there’s big things on the horizon as Delphic are set to release their exciting debut album ‘Acolyte’, on the 11th of January next year. Their third single “Doubt”, will be released digitally on Sunday the 3rd of January 2010, and physically on Monday 4th January 2010. Riton and Ramadanman have already had their hand at creating remixes of “Doubt”, and now Delphic is giving YOU a chance to whip up a phenomenal remix of “Doubt”, one that will be totally mind blowing––Have fun with it!!!

Ben UFO (Hessle Audio) FABRICLIVE Promo mix

Hi guys, here’s a mix from Ben UFO, co-founder of the quietly bubbling techno-does -the-two-step-with- dubstep label Hessle Audio, who recently had a big night last Friday (15/5/09) at London’s legendary Fabric.  The Hassle room included co-founder Ramadanman and other artists on the label including TRG, Pangaea, Untold and MC Asbo.

The three-year-old London label commanded one of the rooms on a night that featured Rusko (LIVE), Skream, The Gaslamp Killer, Jackmaster, Patchwork Pirates, Marcus Intalex, Fabio, Calibre, Doc Scott, Commix, Alix Perez, Mosus B2B Zero Tolerance and MCs Rage, DRS & Justyce.

The mix features a lot of unreleased tracks, which is quite cool and the mix is refreshingly chilled out yet stimulating with the variety of styles giving it a feel that’s sometimes garage bassline, sometimes samba, sometimes grime, sometimes dub and then sometimes you don’t really know. Which I love. Leftfield moves to centre court.

Keep up with Hessle Audio sounds via their Sub FM weekly radio show Ruffage Sessions, every Thursday from 8-10pm or @BenUFO.

Dates of music operation across the UK include:

29th May @Motion, Bristol; 3rd June – Ruffage 3rd Birthday @Wire, Leeds; 4th June – Ruffage road trip @Custard Factory, Birmingham; 13th June – U Dun Know @Visions Dalston, London; 19th June – Medium @Cable, London; 19th June @Egg, London; 24th-26th July – Man Make Music at Secret Garden Party – East Anglia somewhere; 14th-16th August – Free Rotation festival @Hay-on-Wye, Wales; 17th October – Colony@Russian Bar, London.
