Detboi is a freak. A bass freak! Ask the man himself “What is a Detboi?” and he’ll give you a straight answer: “Someone who tried out for Boyzone and never made it”. It’s obvious to everyone that Louis Walsh missed a trick there!!! But with Boyzone reforming for a few last ditch recession essential penny pinching concerts, i think it’s definately time for this Irish star to shine… cue spotlight.
With a look similar to that of an Aye-aye (google it), a sound as fruity as mangoes and a luck that would rival Noel edmonds with a bunch of numbered boxes you know you’re onto a sure winner. So, you’re probably wondering why you haven’t already heard of the young man? Well it’s quite simple says detboi, “Cos im not making dubstep. innit. rewind. Im big in the Philippines tho”. And if the Philippines say “Hey” then you, must surely say “Ho!”
Enough of this nonsense! Get on and listen to the music…..
Oh and please don’t forget to annoy detboi on his myspace with your Aye-aye impersonations.

Bringing you some 4/4 bass bizness out of Chicago today is the Trenchant Recordings release of J Courage’s EP “Clash Back”. The UK Garage climate has been traditionally dominated by none other than, you guessed it, the UK. But ever since Todd Edwards began releasing innovative Garage & Speed Garage tunes, the States have added their voice while the genre as a whole has matured its sound considerably. Now with the nascent sounds of Dubstep, Niche/Bassline and UK Funky, the eclecticism of the UK Garage sound is at an exciting crossroads.
The J Courage tune available for you today is another important addition to the 4-to-the-floor sounds, choosing fierce horn stabs instead of the bubbly bass that normally permeates the Bassline structure. Even recalling some of the tribal sounds of the current UK Funky sound while maintaining a clap-happy 138 BPMs, all the cheese of Bassline is left at the door while the dancefloor meat is left in tact.
The “Clash Back EP” is available today on Beatport, JunoDownload, iTunes, and all your web-based retail stations.

Here for your spring-time listening pleasure is the best in bass music from the month of April! And for all the Eustaces out there, this mix series is now New Yorker magazine approved courtesy of pop music critic Sasha Frere-Jones.
You’ll notice too that the first half of this month’s mix may seem heavy on the ragga tip, but be assured it only reflects a month that’s been happily drenched in ragga. Perhaps it’s a result of the month’s budding flowers, the celebration of bud, or Budweiser (unrelated), but regardless of the influence, it’s an influential month in ragga.
For those who ain’t know: this mix is done live using black Technics 1200MKIIs, a Pioneer DJM-400, and Traktor Scratch Pro. Songs are chosen from a mixture of songs blogged about here on Trash Menagerie, songs downloaded for free from other blogs, an exclusive or two, as well as songs purchased using my recession era cash $.
Below you will find the tracklist as well as links to the blogs where songs were downloaded from. Download free music, but know that it’s free because people still buy music. Enjoy.

As a late supplement to Lovestar’s MEGA-post of Bok Bok & Manara’s MEGA-mix, here is a reinterpretation of the Crazy Cousinz MEGA-tune “Bong Jam” by the Nightslugs hosts L-Vis 1990 & Mr. Charisma himself. If all those interconnections didn’t coalesce well enough here in cyberspace, Crazy Cousinz touch down in East London-town on March 12th to L-Vis and Sushon’s party. We Americans will most surely be experiencing this piece-meal on the World Wide Web. Thankfully, we’ve put said pieces together for you. Burrr-ahh-ppp.
