Even though September is coming to an end, streetwear supply company Krudmart’s September mixtape will continue to beone of my favorite mixes of the fall season.
Entitled, Autumn Love, Krudmart head honcho Steve Kream hand made this wonderful mix that stresses the feelings of fall. It’s getting darker earlier, the air is getting colder, leaves are changing colors and both sexes are wearing more clothing but romance, sex and love seem to be the highest this time of year.
Besides having great taste in music, Krudmart has great clothing and wares for purchasing. You can pick up a Mishka shirt, a pair of APC jeans, Sabre Vision Sunglasses, and head out on the town with Autumn Love playing on your headphones.

Just to add insult to injury amongst a bursting weekend of events, Skream will be hopping across the pond for the 2nd time this Summer, playing Low End Theory at The Knitting Factory. Perhaps even an appropriate addition to Spank Rock’s Big Box Arsenal of progressive, out-of-the-box musicians, Skream has come to represent the true forging of the Dubstep sound. While Burial continues to be #1 in Dubstep searches across internet music sites, Skream is a producer’s producer while also staying honest to his roots.
Unlike Burial’s discovery of a Jack Jackson-like musical signature in bottle-popping drum patterns, the variety of musical influence in Skream’s productions are numerous. From Ragga, Jungle, and Dub, Skream has been able to synthesis the bass heavy leanings of UK’s club scene, into a tropical storm of ferocity and heat.
Playing at Dubwar earlier this Summer for their anniversary show and enjoying himself enough to make a video about it, it’s no doubt wortha trek to TriBeCa for a bass brimming Saturday. And judging by the quality of music here in NYC this weekend and the opportunities in which to see the young lad from the old country, it’s time to man-up, fill your tanks with Red Bull, and get a bellyfull of bass.
Below is Skream’s remix for recent Pitchfork “Best New Music” addition The Bug, as well as Skream’s seminal “Midnight Request Line.”
Hailing from not one territory, rather spanning four, Hong Kong, Italy, Canada, and London, the Sunny Day Sets Fire quintet are making our world a bit brighter with their latest full-length “Summer Palace” released 8th July on IAMSOUND. A collective pool of worldly influences, SDSF offer up a smattering of catchy pop riffs, shades of psychedelia and spacey bits, giving them a surreal sound.
Ever since their February remix EP release of “Stranger” (IAMSOUND), featuring CSS, XXXChange from Spank Rock, The Cool Kids and Diplo, we’ve been anticipating the delights “Summer Palace” would bring our way. This is the stuff that you hope to hear upon opening up that special music box or toasting your marshmallows at the bonfire. The latest remix of SDSF comes by way of Triobelisk who ignites “I Dream Along” with wandering synth rhythms. Read on as he clues us in on how it all came to be.
“IAMSOUND was looking for some new folks to make some promo mixes for the SUNNY DAY SETS FIRE upcoming album last year and I ended up on their radar, so the mix is kind of an “early” Triobelisk work as it is a tad more open and focuses on synth rhythms similar to my other material during this time.
I initially approached the track a little bit like a minimalist take on KAVINSKY as I’m a big fan of his 1986 EP so wanted to capture a similar “adventure” feel to the composition on the first half. I strayed rather far from the original song but I wanted to create something completely different with only the background chorus vocal to be the recognizable motif in order to make a “have I heard this before” feeling to club-goers/listeners. If I were to make keywords to the track I would write: adventure, 80s, driving, miami and flash gordon.” – Triobelisk
Stay tuned as Triobelisk is in the studio creating some spacey disco, cinematic-type tracks for your consumption!!
The French will never let us down. This we know. Their music collectives continue to flourish, getting bigger and better. Perhaps we should take a cue from them? Toulouse-based D*L*i*d, aka ‘Dick Laurent is Dead’ and member of the Electroluxe Family, is releasing his new EP, ‘Discovision‘, TODAY!
I don’t think we’re ready to give up blog house quite yet, especially when title track “Discovision” brings to mind Brazil’s much loved CSS and a slowed down version of Justice’s “Phantom Part 2 (Boyz Noise Remix)”. The riff is similiar, but with the strong vocals on top, it has a different feel and hits you in all the right places. The second version of “Discovision (The Melody Never Dies)“, is more melodic with some softer synth lines and “Get Lost” pulls you back with some infectious distortion.
As D*L*i*d continues to work with the Electroluxe Family, he also keeps his hand in Bisou GTi, a DJ/VJ racing crew from southern France. Mid July sees D*L*i*d headed to Columbia for a tour (check his MySpace for dates and locations) and a 12″ for Quatre Records, to be released in the coming future!! Expect to hear loads more from this exciting collective!
One of our favorite trios, Beth, Brace and Hannah of GOSSIP, landed straight into our hearts with their elevating and energetic tune, “Standing In The Way Of Control”. We knew we wanted more and shortly after, they fulfilled our desires with “Jealous Girls” and “Listen Up”. We’ve been a slave to their rhythm ever since.
Gossip has been remixed by Arthur Baker, MSTRKRFT, Playgroup, Tiga, Tronik Youth, Headman, Punks Jump Up, Rory Phillips, Tommie Sunshine and Soulwax to name a few. They’ve toured with No Bra, Panther, Pre, Les Georges Leningrad, Chromatics, CSS, Le Tigre and Cyndi Lauper.
They’ve been working hard on their new LP and are set to release “Live In Liverpool“, their 2-disc CD/DVD, (off Columbia Records’ Music With A Twist imprint) on Tuesday, 15th of April!! Recorded live in concert on July 9, 2007, by documentary filmmaker and video director Lance Bangs, “Gossip - Live In Liverpool” brilliantly captures the intensity at the core of Gossip’s sound and you get to see Beth smashing it in shiny gold lamé!!
For the release, they will be celebrating with their fans at a one-off performance on 15th of April along with Shy Child at Webster Hall in New York City!! Not to be missed!!!!! Webster Hall ticket info
Stay updated on Gossip via their My Space and pick up “Live In Liverpool” with a quickness!! Here’s a sneak peek!
I feel it is of high importance to let you all know that it has taken a long fucking time to compile all 65 features that the entire TRASH clan has worked up during the month of MARCH. * This post will remain above all other newer posts for a few days. See below for the latest!
WMC - fun, but hectic! How many parties can you fit in during one week?!?!?
Santogold performed live on Annie Mac’sRadio One BBC show on Thursday, here is behind the scenes peek at sound check - 10:00 AM, not an easy one to pull off let me tell ya! She went live at 5:30pm later that day to quite an enthusiastic crowd : )
They were supposed to be on tour, but apparently, Alice broke her ribs. I swear, there is always something going on with these guys, is it part of thier “schtick”? (I never use the word, felt like being weird.) I’ve seen them walk off stage, cancel tours, etc. Does Alice just need to practice more? The album is quite good, more than I expected, I quite like “Vanished” and “Courtship” date. Some of their early tunes, were, while really cool and experimental, a bit raw, these 2 tracks are less “Atari” and more musical, cheers CC! And Alice - get better soon. You know James from Simian Mobile Disco broke his ribs playing football with The Arctic Monkeys while on tour? He just took a lot of vicodin to get through it.
This Soko cover of “Love No”, fucking rocks. If feel it’s way more appropriate coming from a female, and this stripped down version, clearly gets the point across. I can totally relate to this track, and I can make a kitchen list of boys I would like to dedicate it to. I missed The Teenagers when they played here in NYC when touring with Hot Chip. I did see them at the after party, they looked wasted, but actually, everyone did, because everyone was. Owen spilled his bottle of Grey Goose at least 4 times, and he also kicked over my drink. I had to include “Homecoming” - Gentleman Drivers Rave Mix (off Reality Check), as it totally reminded me of that night, just seemed appropriate.
Uber Liebe Gold - Flakes Dictaphone Demo is cool because it’s raw, and it remind me of one of my new favorite bands - Molly Shannon, Molly Shannon. MJ - yeah, who hasn’t had a relationship with someone that was a secret and you couldn’t tell anyone about it? It’s fun to be undercover and naughty. Count me in. BUT, the question is, once it’s not a secret anymore, is it still as good? And, is it me, or does they sound kinda like early Police here?
In 2007, The Cribs let us know about “Men’s Needs”, well, in 2008, they’ve declared their “realists”, and are offering up kind words to all the broken hearted. They’ve had a good year reflecting it seems, right on boys!
Le Le, aka Antoine DuFour, want to let all the ladies know, their plans for us - we’re “Breakfast”, all “meaty and fat”, the “cheese on their baguette”, “oatmeal, granola”, YEAH bitch!- um, cheeky, eh? I supposed they expect us to cook it up as well? I’ll give you a skillet, get yer ass over here. Its a fun song, reminds me of Detroit Grand Puba’s - “We Can Make Sandwiches”. That was quite the jam. Anything involving food and music, i’m there. Joakim’s - “Come into my Kitchen”, Dinky’s - “Acid in My Fridge” - sounds like a fab dinner party.
I hung out with these boys over the summer while they were recording their album in Brooklyn. We enjoyed drinking and smoking on a rooftop overlooking the city, we hit a few (er, was it many?) neighborhood pubs, and they would pop by every so often to see what was new and exciting and to give us mini updates on their studio session. It was a good week, good times all around. Really happy to see they are doing so well, and its a big plus that I love their music. Their label - Transgressive, top notch. Tim and Toby, you guys rock. The door is always open - my NY is your NY!
Baltic Fleet are new discovery, they hail from Liverpool - UK, but seem to have spent some time in my former hometown of Chicago, so I was immediately interested, and glad I took the time to nab their album, it’s solid, and really good. Its described as Electro, Minimalist, Garage - intriguing mix. The first track i’ve posted, “To Chicago” covers the minimalist aspect, and “Double Door”, is where is gets gritty and raw. For those that are not familiar with Chicago, Double Door is a live music venue in Chicago’s Wicker Park. Its been around for YEARS, and just about EVERY band has played this venue, Smashing Pumpkins, The Presets, The Rolling Stones, I could go on, seriously, its legendary. The tracks I posted by Baltic Fleet are not incredibly representative of the rest of the album, I chose these specific tracks because of my personal association with Chicago. I would strongly urge you to pick this album up, and check it out in it’s entirety, it’s been on my player often, i’m quite fond of it, solid.
So, while we’re on the subject of Chicago, I had to throw in this Dave Gahan remix of “Kingdom” by Ralphie Rosario, a legendary Chi-town house DJ and producer. He’s remixed everyone and their mother. And, here comes the slightly embarrassing bit i’ve had locked about in my closet. Once upon a time, long, long again, in a galaxy, FAR, FAR, away . . . I dabbled in vocals and production. T he first track I ever recorded was back in 1999, for Ralphi’s first album, “45 Miles of Nerves”. Really, I have kept this a secret, I’ve never really told many people about it, never played it for anyone. I don’t know why I feel the sudden need to come clean and put it out there. So, if you wanna ‘ave a laugh, take a listen. Don’t get me wrong, it was fun going into the studio and working on my “first track”, but it’s not really, exactly, AT ALL, “ME”. The target audience was Glee Club Sunday night’s at Crobar, which, I had some of my best nights out. There’s nothing quite as nice, as being doted on by a bunch of lovely, fantastic gay men, dancing on boxes with their shirts off, who want nothing more than to buy you drinks and other goodies. I didn’t write the lyrics, or the music, for “Mellow, But Yet Taunting”, but yep, that’s me saying “Undress me . . . my ears were filled with orgasmic sound”. YEP.
Portishead, oh, Portishead. I know it’s only March, but this could be THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR. No words to be said, the music does the talking.

There is a weird/exciting/astonishing mystery surrounding the much loved Brazilian band, CSS, and their “Music is My Hot, Hot, Sex” video on Youtube.
As of March 5th, CSS (CANSEI DE SER SEXY)has the #1 viewed video on You Tube of ALL time, with over 90 million views. “Music is My Hot Hot Sex” - is not just the #1 MUSIC video, but the #1 video of ANY kind.
The video is very raw, shot in front of a green screen in a studio, there is nothing “extraordinary” about it. It was made by a fan for a contest held by MTV, Italy, where people were asked to make a video for a totally different song.
The popularity of “Music is My Hot Hot Sex” on Youtube hits many, as well as those associated with it, as very surprising, even bizzare. The band has a healthy myspace following, will well over 134k friends, but when you take into consideration 91,195,785Youtube views, its somewhat astonishing.
CSS - “Music is My Hot Hot Sex”
A reliable source close to band stated, “No one from the band or the label has been beefing up that number, and it didn’t appear to be a mistake over at Youtube. They brought it to our attention a week or two ago when it cracked the top 25 and somehow it accrued another 20 million views since then. CSS has always had a pretty big Youtube audience because of the homemade clips they posted early on and their fan bases in Brazil and Europe. A lot of their stuff has around a million views. And I can see them getting a lot of random views just because searching for words like “sex,” “sexy,” and “hot” often bring up their clips. But nearly 90 million views of this particular clip is baffling”
How important is music to Google’s YouTube.com? Out of the 12 all-time most viewed YouTube clips, nine are professionally made music videos. At least one rock video has been watched more than 75 million times on YouTube.
But do the performers in the videos share in the advertising revenue generated by their work?
Some top music managers have told CNET News.com that their clients haven’t seen any money from the licensing deals the four largest music labels have signed with YouTube over the past 18 months. According to a statement from Google-owned YouTube, the Web site is banking ad dollars generated by the artist’s music and is sharing that money with the record labels. What the managers want to know is why little or nothing has trickled down to the artists.
“I don’t know any artist who has gotten a royalty statement from their label that includes YouTube money,” said music attorney Chris Castle . . .
My recent week long sickness left me lifeless in bed and yielded more than a few constant things like getting outdoors, going to events, interacting with others and music blogging! Finally squashed the bug, on the mend and looking forward to getting back to a bit of Trash and some good upcoming shows!! (MSTRKRFT / THE BLOODY BEETROOTS / LA RIOTS / LAZ CASANOVA in Chicago next Sat, 8 March!!!!!)
2007 gave birth to a brand new and exciting Finnish record label, New Judas and with it came some wicked beats. Pushing their mini empire ahead, artists Huoratron, Obi Blanche, Pets On Prozac, DJ’s Les Gillettes and the visual wizards of Vänskap, have a mission to deliver: A record label that never will fail in taking your senses to another dimension. That is fantastic cause I’m all about going to different dimensions! Yay! Since their launch, they’ve played at various venues and at festivals in major cities all over the world and continue to conquer all in their path. They’ve been featured alongside Justice, CSS, Kid 606, Pan Sonic, Get Shakes, Numbers, Miss Oddkidd, Roxy Cottontail and Niyi.
Busy with his latest EP release, “Huoratron: $$ Troopers“, out yesterday, Huoratron wants to ‘RULE THEM ALL’. With looks quite similiar to that of a Roman gladiator – bearded face, matching physique and music that pounds, he very well could rule them all. His commanding beats get into your system like the good drugs your Doc has prescribed and of course leave you yearning for more. If you’ve got an ounce of love for techno, you’ll find a fresh input from Huoratron.
So check it out, when you preorder the “Huoratron: $$ Troopers” record (Available for purchase at the New Judas My Space) you get the entire release as an mp3 straight away, which includes, “$$ Troopers”, “Trolls”, “Hoedown” and “$$ Troopers (Charlie Fanclub Remix)”– Love the Charlie Fanclub version. And you know VINYL is on the up and up so what are you waiting for?! Don’t you want to be a collector of all things cool?? I positively want that sinister looking image of Huoratron staring at me off the shelves. Here’s another remix of “$$ Troopers”, by Downtown! Keep your eye out for more from New Judas!
Yeah, Radiohead is all I needed to hear. I haven’t seen them live in 2 years, webcasts don’t count. I’m way in. Nice one Goldenvoice & AEG, festivals kind freakin’ rule.
Radiohead have been confirmed as both the Friday and Saturday night headliner for the first-ever ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL. This marks the first time that a cutting-edge band will headline multiple nights of a major U.S. music festival.
Jack Johnson will headline Sunday night of the three-day, multi-stage music and arts festival taking place August 8, 9 and 10 at Liberty State Park in New Jersey. The ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL will also feature performances from Underworld, Kings of Leon, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Cat Power, The Roots and The New Pornographers, among others. More than 40 acts will appear on three stages throughout the 80-acre historic location with panoramic views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Manhattan skyline.
Tickets for ALL POINTS WEST go on sale Friday, February 29 at 12 Noon (ET) via www.ticketmaster.com only. Single day passes are $89 and three-day passes are $258. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit “Friends of Liberty State Park.” The Friends of Liberty State Park is an open space advocacy volunteer organization dedicated to the park’s future as a free, green and non-commercial, urban waterfront oasis.
The ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL is being created in a “green” festival environment. Initial “green” plans include on-site parking for carpoolers only and ample public transportation to and from the site. Ferry service will be available from Manhattan directly to the festival grounds; exact details with ferry schedules will be announced at a later date. Additionally, light rail service via NJ Transit will run directly to the festival grounds. Meanwhile, a limited supply of on-site parking is reserved exclusively for carpoolers. Carpool parking passes are available either as single days for Saturday and Sunday or as a three-day pass for the weekend. Note: four concert tickets are required in order to qualify for carpool parking.
The festival’s name is inspired by the area’s rich history, particularly Ellis Island and the NJ Central Railroad terminal located on the festival site, where many arriving immigrants boarded trains for ALL POINTS WEST.
ALL POINTS WEST is produced by Goldenvoice/AEG Live and Liberty Events in association with the HighLine Ballroom. For up-to-the-minute information on the ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL, visit www.apwfestival.com.
