If that’s not enough “runoff” for you, Carles is hosting a partie with us in Chicago.
Not sure to mark this occasion with a game of “Where in the Congress is Carles?”
or a massive game of Hipster Bingo?
Please leave your vote in “comments” and if someone answers with, “first”, i’ll be so excited, i’ll give you 4 tix’s to hang out with us at the “partie“.
The Twitter for Hipster Runoff currently says, “i think my blog is ‘having a party’ in Chicago, or something.” And it’s true: though Carles is usually almost impenetrably ironic on his strangely popular blog, he’s being straight up with us here.
The second edition of Branded–the ravey new party series that kicked off with a Deadmau5/Crookers/Late of the Pier show in April–is happening at the Congress Theater on June 19, and not only is Hipster Runoff’s name on the bill, the press release makes a point of noting that Carles will be in the building. I thought the highlight of my life would be appearing on both the Cobrasnake and Last Night’s Party
But really it was becoming bros with Carles
And getting dibs on his leftover tugjobs

My “bro”, CARLES
PS – Worried that no song is attached, and this post won’t get picked up by Hype Machine, also hope some “GRINDERS” come to the party.
Tickets are $16.00 pre-sale, and $19.00 in advance via TICKETWEB.COM & CLUBTIX.NET
Get yours fast, the last Branded show almost SOLD OUT and brought 4000 people to the Congress.
You can also . . . TRY YOUR LUCK!
We’re giving away 100 free tickets every week leading up to BRANDED on June 19th. ENTER BELOW or CLICK HERE to win!
What connects Norwegian death metal, French club anthems and London super-producer Paul Epworth? It sounds like a particularly intractable example of the six degrees of separation game. However, these seemingly irreconcilable points on the musical compass are linked by French dance rock four-piece Black Strobe. A simple enough answer. The explanation is going to take a little bit longer.
Not as long as it took the band – Arnaud Rebotini (vocals and programming), David ‘Siskid’ Shaw (guitars and keyboards), Bastien Burger (bass and keyboards) and Benjamin Beaulieu (drums) – to record their debut album, however. Burn Your Own Church is a record ten years in the making. Happily, it’s worth the wait. Few bands manage to combine guitars and electronics as successfully as Black Strobe.

It’s official. Raves are back and the lights and lasers are beaming more than ever before!! I found myself headed off to watch Local Hero at a party in Chicago about 2 weekends ago, amidst a sweltering, smoke machine filled room, pounding bass, and tons of lasers. “How the fuck did I get here?!” I thought. The 20 year old kid I chatted with, candy bracelets stacked to his elbow, reminded me of a time when raves were the end all, be all. He let me know that raves were in fact, back. The cycle continues.
Get your candy bracelets, pacifier’s and dayglo out, because Denver, Colorado is about to be bestowed with an unbelievable 16 million multicolor laser show. Srsly. LAZER NATION takes place this coming weekend, Saturday 9th May!! Hosted by Floorbangers and Phunk-e-elements, the show looks to be a rare and spectacular event, with top acts such as Frankie Bones, Matt Darey, Chicago’s Noise Floor Crew, Trash Yourself and many more.
All essential information, including ticket purchase, location, and time for Lazer Nation, can be found here.
I had the opportunity to catch up with The Whip amidst their North American tour to ask them a few off the cuff questions about life on the road. We chatted about eating gator, laundry, and breaking things. They were also very kind to give us the “Mumdance Carnival Remix” of Divebomb, from their album “X Marks Destination“. (Which has been in constant rotation in my player!)
AP: When you’re on the road, and not doing band stuff, what do you spend your time doing? (Sleeping does not count!)
THE WHIP: We have been playing a lot of old school games I downloaded an Emulator and loads of old games for Nintendo and Sega. Also all the old Monkey Island Games! We have been playing a lot of Sensible Soccer!!
AP: What’s the best catering you’ve had on the road thus far? Anything stand out?
THE WHIP: It wasn’t catering but our tour manager Titus treated us to a meal out in New Orleans. He took us to a place called Jacques-Imo’s. The food was amazing!! Had alligator for the first time!!
AP: How do you do your laundry when you’re on tour?
THE WHIP: There is a divide in the camp!! Some have been taking it to the nearest Laundromat to the hotel and getting it done. Others have been using the hotel room shower/sink washing it there and drying it on the dash of the van as we drive around the country!
AP: Do you ever feel like just giving up and buying new clothes?
THE WHIP: Sometimes. I didn’t bring that many clothes with me this time knowing I will probably buy or obtain clothes on our way round. Some stuff is throw away like underpants but a good T-shirt you just can’t get rid!!
AP: If I gave you each $1000 to go shopping, what would you spend it on?
THE WHIP: For most it would go on clothes, drink, ipods etc!! I need a new lens for my camera and have found one but its $600!! So I would probably spend it on that and something for the fiancee back home can’t forget her!!
AP: Did anything “significant” break yet? Examples of “significant” could be to mean anything from, taking off a cabinet door, flat tire, body part, crew member, mixing board.
THE WHIP: The Juno Keyboard that we use live gave up 2 days ago so we have been using Late Of The Piers for the past couple of days. Ours is in the shop getting fixed. Nathan broke himself in Miami with too much partying but he all better now!
AP: What is the first thing you’re planning to do once the tour is over?
THE WHIP: Go and have Fish and Chips in the UK then record album 2.
