MeMeMe is a Fine Piece of Ass

MeMeMeNLLRMixflyer

The frigid weather we’ve been having in Chicago, -1° F, is enough to keep a person holed up in the house for days on end! Not too terrible if you’ve gone to the grocery, stocked up on some good food, a sugary snack or two, perhaps picked up a few movies and have some good music to get you through the chill!!

The lovely Kimberleysmobiledisco of TM, featured MeMeMe late January, It’s All About MeMeMe! complete with an excellent mix to get us going! I’ve just listened to the most recent they’ve whipped up for NLLR and it is one FINE PIECE OF ASS in the form of a mix. Sink your teeth into this one wherever you are, freezing or hot. Cheers!!

“MeMeMe, aka Moxie and Purlow, are a very tight Nottingham based DJ duo with a much buzzed about residency at much loved club, STEALTH. Having already played alongside the likes of EROL ALKAN, KISSY SELL OUT, SINDEN, NIGHTMOVES, BANG GANG DEEJAYS, LATE OF THE PIER, FRIENDLY FIRES, DETBOI, PRIMARY 1, D.I.M., CRYSTAL CASTLES, GUNS & BOMBS, LILLICA LIBERTINE and RORY PHILLIPS, these two fine and most talented individuals have thoroughly earned their deejay stripes and their career is barely off the ground. If like me you’re a big fan of the utterly fresh sound folks like HERVE, SINDEN, SWITCH, DROP THE LIME, SURKIN and friends are currently throwing down, then you’re gonna’ flip over this mix. In the space of 13 tracks and 1 hour MEMEME manage to whip up the euphoric frenzy of a full nights clubbing at the coolest venue imaginable. There’s more whirring Bassline and Dubstep-style sub-bass, Bmore and Jukey shake, grinding Electro pulse and stuttered post-Hip Hop, post-Rave beat and melody in this mix than you’ll know what to do with. It’s an absolutely bangin’ set from start to finish, comprised of only the very hottest tunes out there at the moment, selected and mixed to woofer trembling perfection. Needless to say MEMEME are going all kinds of good places in 2008. If after enjoying this exclusive mix that MOXIE and PURLOW have lovingly crafted for you, you are left craving more MEMEME, then you’re in luck! They did a sweet-as mix for Trash Menagerie only last month, which I’ve conveniently linked below. So there we are, go friend MEMEME, MOXIE and PURLOW on Myspace, check out their extensive list of upcoming dates and get on this mix!!!” – No Love Lost Records

Congorock meets The Mixtape Project

CongorockNLLRMixtape

Lee Norman Williams has had a 20 year long obsession – One that started back when he was a young lad growing up in Bristol, England. Fast forward to today and his obsession has turned itself into a dance record label – No Love Lost Records, based in NYC and named in honor of Tony Wilson.

No Love Lost Records specializes in house, techno and electro artists, as well as signing brand new artists to the label proper. No Love Lost Records also has a nifty little side-project called, “The NLLR Mixtape Project”, which features new and upcoming artists and DJ’s to contribute exclusive mixes. Spanning all genres, there is something appealing for all (we quite like past artists, Lillica Libertine + Zombie Disco Squad). For their ninth guest, they’ve chosen an artist that we are quite keen on, CONGOROCK out of Italy, who was previously featured in November on TM, Congorock Goes it Alone.

Okay so this mix may not be as exclusive as say, London Dubstep artist Burial’s identity, but thanks much to Lee for passing this our way! An excellent mix of acid working well into fidget house. With a podcast coming in March, there are sure to be some exciting things on the platter for No Love Lost Records and The NLLR Mixtape Project in 08′!

It’s All About MeMeMe!

MeMeMe Nottingham Djs

As selfish as the title sounds it’s actually true! 2007 was definitely the year that Nottingham based dj’s MeMeMe broke the mould and unleashed their monster tunes on unsuspecting hipsters throughout the UK.

With hot DJ sets alongside the likes of Kissy Sell Out, Guns & Bombs, Friendly Fires, and Late of the Pier this duo are certainly delectable. They are in fact so delicious that their residency at Liars Club based at Stealth in Nottingham is the talk of the town.

The duo are not afraid to admit that they like bass and don’t shy away from utilising this when playing Electro, Techno, House or Baltimore. With influences in the form of Tony de Vit, Old School Hardcore, Pirate Station Garage, Boys Noize, Drop the Lime, Daft Punk, Switch, and Diplo it is easy to that the MeMeMe setlist is never predictable.

After their mammoth set alongside Erol Alkan New Years Eve at the Stealth vs Rescue Rooms event, we feel it is only fair that we unleash their greatness on you.

This dramatic ‘Obese Teens Can’t Dance’ Mix (below) will make your eyes water and you dance around like you have ants in your pants, mark my words! If that isn’t enough check out their upcoming sets around the UK in 2008 here to indulge your selfish side as much as you see fit.

At the Speed of Raffertie

RAFFERTIE!!!!

Oh man! A DJ/Producer who goes by the name of Raffertie just sent us the most amazing mix called Baaaaaaaaaassline. The title is apt to say the least. He’s managed to take all the bassheavy subgenres and play them at 145bpm. There’s some breakstep, a buncha speed garage, ‘ardcore, some house and some electro all totally bassed out and banging. Raffertie hails from Birmingham and is a resident at a new night called “Oh My Gosh” at King Edward Inn over by The Q Club in Birmingham. As far as I can tell, he’s made entirely out of plaid and his production is quite unique. It incorporates all the elements that are found in his mix but without getting too messy like some cross-genre pollination can be. Lotsa bass, of course and honestly, it resembles Burial’s subdued, bassy style in the same way that TS7 resembles MJ Cole in that, its certainly not as well produced as the latter but it sticks to the same theme, it hits hard and will work on the floor. Anyways, without further ado, the mix followed by a pair of tracks.

Raffertie - Baaaaaaaaassline

01. kanji kinetic - the buffalo (intro)
02. dubchild - lethal riddim
03. lockdown - gunman (twocker remix)
04. klaxons - atlantis to interzone (destroy disco remix)
05. paleface - lady like (dj dandg vs. dezz jones remix)
06. destroy disco - fly or bounce
07. wideboys - dis station (rule da nation)
08. snap! - the power (kanji kinetic remix)
09. limewax - one of them (kanji kinetic vegeburger bootleg)
10. delerium - silence (raffertie’s garage revamp)
11. ja rule - always on time (agent x remix)
12. tapedeck - destiny (stdjs remix)
13. dexplicit - good for me
14. wideboys - west side (up norf 06 mix)
15. rip lash, sus and juicy joints - how we do
16. raffertie - back to the underground
17. kylie minogue - 2 hearts (destroy disco remix)

Justice’s Nixed Fabric Mix

Justicecross

“We didn’t want to do just another boring mix, so we put together a selection of tunes we absolutely love, mainly weird disco tracks and French novelty acts,” Justice’s Xavier de Rosnay told Norwegian newspaper Dagsavinsen. “But Fabric turned it down. They weren’t ready for something like this. Maybe we’ll put the mix out ourselves. People should really hear it, they’d be surprised.” That is exactly what the Parisian duo did, calling it, “Justice Xmas Mix”.

Fortunately, Joshua from URB posted the nixed Fabric mix on Friday, and it’s certainly an eclectic, pretty little number. Chock-full of oldies, complete with two lovely tunes, Rondo Veneziano - “La Serenissima” (great video below) with some Justice mixed in, and Korgis – “Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometimes”, heading straight into one of my 2007 favs, Midnight Juggernauts, ending with Todd Rundgrens, “International Feel”. Thanks Joshua!

Justice - Justice Xmas Mix

01. Sparks – Tryouts For The Human Race – Virgin
02. Rondo Veneziano – La Serenissima - Universal
03. Goblin – Tenebrae - Cinevox
04. Daft Punk – Ouverture - Virgin
05. Surkin – Next Of Kin – Institubes
06. Symbolone – Love Juice - SymbolOne
07. Korgis – Everybodys Gotta Learn Sometimes – Angel Air
08. Midnight Juggernauts – Ending Of An Era – Midnight Juggernauts
09. The Paradise Ft Romauld – In Love With You – Vulture
10. Justice – TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY (Acapella) – Ed Banger
11. Chic – Everybody Dance – Atlantic
12. Frankie Valli – Who Loves You – Warners
13. Das Pop – Underground – Das Pop
14. Julien Clerc – Quand Je Joue – EMI
15. Daniel Balavoine – Vivre Ou Survivre – Barclay
16. Richard Sanderson – Reality - Barclay
17. Zoot Woman – Grey Day – Wall Of Sound
18. Fucking Champs – Thor Is Like Immortal – Drag City
19. The Rave – Mother – The Rave
20. Fancy – You Never Know - Fancy
21. Frank Stallone – Far From Over - Universal
22. Sheila – Misery – Warners
23. Todd Rundgren – International Feel - Warners

A good ending to an eclectic mix – there’s always more!
Todd Rundgren – International Feel
Here we are again, the start of the end,
but there’s More
I only want to see if you’ll give up on me
But there’s always More
There is More, International Feel
And there’s More, Interplanetary Deals
But there’s More, Interstellar Appeal
Still there’s More, Universal Ideal
Still there’s More, International Feel
I swear something lies
in your ears and your eyes
‘Cause there’s More
You hear and you see yet you do not believe
That there’s always More
(I know)
