A few weeks ago I came across the profile page of a fantastic graphics/illustrator by the name of Takun Williams. I got to flipping through his albums, gazing at his style of work and found myself feeling quite inspired and loving the visuals!! The bold outlined characters filled with rich, vibrant colors really make quite an impact. I hit up Takun, told him I loved his work and wanted to feature the image of Obama and a few others on Trash. He was thrilled. This is what he had to say.
“My name is Takun Williams. I live in Brooklyn, NYC. I was hatched out of an egg and introduced to technology at an early age and never stopped growing with it. Although things are very strange in the world these days, I support Obama because his whole persona screams “CHANGE!” And we all need a little of that shit in our lives”.
Obama definitely signifies change. He has my vote. Check out Takun’s work at his My Space. Let him know you think he’s the hot shittttt!!!!!! And for all those in need of some fine graphics for your EP, LP, poster, skateboard, party flyer, what have you, why not have this young man render up some goodness??
Ok so I have news that has actually caused me to salivate profusely! Yes hipsters it’s true this news caused enough drool to rival Homer Simpson’s when he sees a doughnut!
What’s the news I hear you cry?
Well, Trash Fave - Glamour Soundsystem & partner in crime Lillica Libertine combined their excessive bundle of talents to create Stylenoir - an exciting media company set to blow your newest and most fabulous Marc Jacobs bag straight off your dainty arm with excitement!
Seriously, after witnessing a drunk Kelly Osbourne attempt to present the Birmingham Style Show last weekend the news that Stylenoir are publishing a bi-annual book entitled ‘The Black Book of Art and Fashion’ was welcomed as a well timed vodka shot to put me out my fashion misery. The book will primarily showcase the works of up-coming fashion designers, photographers and artists, but beware it will only be stocked in London, Paris, Milan and New York City – exclusive or what?
This fabulous book will be jam packed with plenty of fashion-based delights from designers such as Charles of London, Ioannis Dimitrousis, and Pavla Kopecna (Vogue Italy, Dazed & Confused, Tank magazine) as well as many of the usual desirable suspects.
A Stylenoir website will be launched to provide fashionistas with a new portal to keep them up-to-date with fashion news across the spectrum from the alternative fashion all the way up to Karl Lagerfeld’s latest move.
Last but definitely not least, there will be a dazzling launch party for Stylenoir on 11th of May at London hipster venue - Hoxton bar. This sophisticated shindig will be hosted by Matt Horne (who hosted the NME awards), and will also host performances from Tapedeck and one of my personal favourites - The Real Heat, oh and don’t forget a catwalk show from Charles of London!
So there you have it - check out Stylenoir online, buy the book and blag your way into the party - just don’t forget to arrive fashionably late!
For a mere $600, you can own beamz (”beamz,” as in laser beams…but with a “z”! Is that how all the kids spell it nowadays?), which does for the theremin what lawn jams did for funk music. I just spotted this on Gizmodo, which, posts the video demo and accurately describes it as “amazingly asstupid.”
All I gotta say is–two middle-aged men exchange hi-fives within the first 5 seconds! Is it so asstupid, it’s asstastic? Or just asstupid? How ’bout you watch it and judge for yourself.

Stuck in New York, bombarded by drunk text messages from Miami–what’s a party goer to do? Well, not to fear, WMC may have sucked a good number of the city’s DJs, promoters and speaker huggers down to South Beach this week–but there’s still plenty going on.
In fact, maybe you should give your ears a rest and check out the art fairs happening all over the city. You’ll likely catch me at the Carl Berg booth of the LA Art Fair to check out a couple pieces by my pal, the talented Francis Ireifej (he makes his pieces using lasers n sh*t–I’m serious).
If you still need a bit of music on the itinerary, check out some modern dance infused with traditional Japanese performance art by the Saeko Ichinohe Dance Company
Saturday night’s alright for scoring free wine at the Williamsburg Armory After Hours Celebration–where the streets of Williamsburg become flooded with art goers and alcohol as both flow in and out of the galleries in the neighborhood until 11pm.
After that, theDanger and friends will be throwing an afterparty at Supreme Trading. They’ll have some art-party elements you might come to expect–e.g., trapeze artists and stilt-walkers. But they’re throwing in an extra something for you music nerds with Vintage DJ (pictured above). The guy uses old record players as turntables, and plays a swell mix of classic funk, soul and rock n roll to boot!
If you can’t make it out to Williamsburg on Saturday, Passerby in Chelsea is worth checking out. Like all great, unpretentious bars in the city, it’s closing down to make room for some real estate development. According to NYHappenings, they’re opening up the back room and Rub n Tug will be DJing.
PRESS STATEMENT FROM MARCH 27, 2007 BY MANUEL GOETTSCHING’S MANAGEMENT:
For the cover of his album “45:33″ LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy has imitated the artwork of “E2-E4″ and thus inappropriately exploits the reputation of the famous original!
Manuel Goettsching’s “E2-E4″ (recorded on the 12th of December 1981 and first released in spring 1984) is considered to be one of the “most influential compositions” of the last 30 years and according to US surveys also one of the most frequently sampled tracks. But 80% of the samples and remixes are illegal… and on top of all that comes this plagiarism of the cover artwork:
LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy has used the artwork of the cover of “E2-E4″, and unappropriately claims for himself the prestige of the famous original, not missing a chance to tell the press that with “45:33″ he wanted to create a work similar to Goettsching’s “E2-E4″:
From Wikipedia:
“45:33″ is a song by LCD Soundsystem. Commissioned by Nike, 45:33: Nike Original Run is an original and exclusive composition only available at Nike Music Store oniTunes. The publicity for the song described it as being designed to accompany jogging workouts. James Murphy later said this was a complete lie on his part, that he doesn’t even jog, and that he had simply used the opportunity to make a record like E2-E4 by Manuel Goettsching.” (Quoted from an interview with THE GUARDIAN, published on February 10, 2007).
Manuel Goettsching was caught off guard by this “artifice” of a fellow musician when journalists and fans asked him how he felt about the astounding similarity of the covers - the only difference in the design being NIKE’s logo on “45:33″, as well as of course the titles and artist’s names. Even the fonts used are identical. 23 years after its first release, (more…)
