City of Iron begins to Melt!

Before you get fired up too much for this festival, let me tell you that the 2009 edition of Melt! festival is already sold out.

Now that we have made this clear, let’s have a look at the facts and numbers of this amazing festival in Germany (because you might still get some tickets on Ebay if you’re really spontaneous and have some cash at hands…).

The festival takes place this weekend (17 – 19 July 2009) at Ferropolis, a peninsula within a lake that formed as a coal mine was flooded. Some gigantic excavators and mining machines are at display to demonstrate the history of the place. They create a surreal, industrial atmosphere in which Melt! presents an amazing line-up of bands and DJs with a strong tendency towards electronic music.

Some bands I am certainly going to see are Phoenix, Whitest Boy Alive and Who Made Who. Other acts to be seen at Melt! are Metronomy, Moderat, James Yuill, Foals, Amazing Baby, Fever Ray, Boys Noize & Erol Alkan, Kasabian, Passion Pit, Miike Snow and many, many others. To see the full line up go here.

Closest airports are Berlin or Halle/Leipzig, from where shuttle rides will take 90 minutes and 60 minutes respectively. In case you’re driving, the exact address is: Ferropolisstraße 1, 06773 Gräfenhainichen (Saxony-Anhalt), Germany.

Make sure you visit Trash Menagerie next week as I will try to upload some pictures and stories of Melt! 2009.
