I Left My Heart In Tokyo

Mini Viva are two lovely ladies from the Northwest part of the United Kingdom who have a love for Tokyo. So much so, the duo created the tune, “I Left My Heart In Tokyo“, to show their affection for the amazing metropolis. In October 2008, World’s Finest Records put out a limited 10″ single of “I Left My Heart In Tokyo”, with a Fred Falke dub mix on the a-side and instrumental mix on the b-side, complete with beautiful Japanese styled package design. A 12″ consisting of two more fantastic remixes by Treasure Fingers and LA duo, Acid Girls followed. I like how Acid Girls took the bassline, (which typically may be found mid-song), and placed it in the beginning. The remix kicks from the start. The LA boys also got a nod in The New Yorker recently. Big tings!!

Catch Mini Viva at the two-day Camden Crawl event, 24 and 25th of April, and check the dates below for upcoming Acid Girls gigs.

Worship Life!

Worship is an artist from Geneva, Switzerland (almost France though!). He’s part of the roster of On The Fruit Records, which we mentioned some time ago in connection with label boss Franck aka Freak You.

While Freak You has clearly made a big impression on some of us, Worship has left a big footprint on Beatport (apparently making On The Fruit Records one of the best selling labels in the section indie dance). I am totally feeling his “Dome trilogy” but when I checked his myspace the other day, a new song called “Born Live Die” just made me forget everything around myself. It’s an epic synth tune that’s as diverse as life itself. The track is born into a mellow intro, it picks up speed and races and pumps through the world just to fall apart slowly in a huge cheesy sunset at the end.

Worship – BornLiveDie

This is as beautiful as life can be. Buy Worship’s “The Dome” on Beatport.

Trash In the Bassment Vol. 3

Red, Gold, and Green

Red, Gold, and Green

Marking the 3rd installment of the Trash Menagerie feature “Trash In the Bassment,” here is the best in bass from the month of March! Culled from a variety of blogs (including our own), music I’ve purchased, as well as the occasional exclusive, you’re bound to be buried in low-end frequencies.

Links to song downloads at their original blog post are available in the tracklist, and songs are available for purchase at your local web-based record store. This mix was mixed live using black Technics 1200 MKII’s, a Pioneer DJM-400, and Traktor Scratch Pro.

Round Table Knights – Winter Mix 2009

I’ve been following Swiss dj/production duo Round Table Knights for the past year and a bit, but to be honest, I’ve been holding back. Not sure if it’s because I didn’t get what they were doing or perhaps fully appreciate the crazy embracing lots of kinds of sounds that in theory I should love, but in reality baffled me. Hip hop, indie pop and italo disco – what? It shouldn’t be that hard to fathom, but there you go!

I burned myself with tracks such as “Freaks from Desire” (yes, a reworking of Gala’s “Freed from Desire”), which I’m sorry, split the world into two. Still the boys pump out some wicked remixes and came out with a belter of a tune last year with “Hold Me Back“, which was remixed by The Bulgarian and was featured on Trash last year. Fucking bring it on!

RTK are currently on the last leg of their USA tour, ending in San Franciso on 3 April at the Rickshaw Stop. I reckon seeing them live will be a good one, not least recommended by the parties they’ve rocked at (Sonar, SXSW, etc) or the people they’ve knocked elbows with (TTC, Beastie Boys, Holy Ghost!, Spank Rock, Coco Rosie, Justice, Modeselektor, Simian Mobile Disco, Soulwax, M.I.A, Crookers, Poni Hoax, etc).

Not to name drop or anything, right?

Round Table Knight’s Winter Mix 2009 dishes up some stripped down minimalist and tribal house, taking me back to the sweaty, smoke-filled blacked-outclubs in Berlin I was partying in a month ago. Music’s been a little bit brash lately, and it’s a relief to go back to the basics.

Get stuck in to this one.

2 Frenchies

Rob da Bank gives us plenty of reason to tune into his show on BBC Radio 1, ‘Rob da Bank and Friends‘, which he describes as, “A higgledy piggeldy romp through music’s underground and leftfield, from folky noodlings to boshing Russian techno and Brazilian dubstep.” – The Independent.

On 9th March, Rob gave us a nice 2 hour window of time, to soak up some of the tracks that are on the minds of two of France’s golden boys, producer Fred Falke and Ed Banger’s, Pedro Winter. Fred throws it down with some new tunes and Pedro shows us he’s not all banger’s and mash.

Cryptonites’ March Mix

Swiss DJ/producer duo Cryptonites have locked themselves up in their studio where they are spending most of their free time (i.e. weekends) working on their new EP “Boots Electric” (working title) and some remixes.

Cryptonites have just finished a remix for Australian band Polygon Palace.  Some of the remixes that should be released soon are the following ones:

Lions At Your Door: LAYD (Cryptonites Remix) on Gash Digital
Nightriders: Into The Spotlight (Cryptonites Remix) on OMG! Records
Grafton Primary: Allstars (Cryptonites Remix) on Sonic Constructions

Every once in a while they realize they should stay in touch with the world and friends and so they send out snippets to friends in 96kbps to make up for their antisocial behavior and think they can get away with it…

When they are in a good mood and feel generous, however, they put together a nice mixtape, like the one they sent me some days ago.

Cryptonites – March 09 Mixtape

Cryptonites are DJing with Surkin in April in Bulle, Switzerland and with Ponybomb in Warsaw.

Give them some love here.
