p e a c e FIRE
Hi, my name’s Jan, I’m the latest addition to Trash Menagerie’s roster. I’ll be contributing now and then to add some love from Europe. Or rather: cheese and chocolate flavored love from tiny Switzerland, to be more precise. Oh, and my pen name is PD Williams.
First featured on the big D‘s twice – p e a c e FIRE give us the synths we have all been longing for ever since SymbolOne served us Love Juice. Like Lovelock, p e a c e fire seems to be somewhat distant from the blogosphere as it took the world quite some time to take notice of this American living in Japan. Still, his music really comes at the right moment to hit everybody off balance.
On Baghdad Rainbow, pf show’s that he is no hurry. Diligently he lets the track build up over a dry beat, the synths only really pick up after 46 seconds. But hold on and listen carefully, this stuff will take you to your utopian dreams. Just like Into The Freedom, which also isn’t exactly made for the dancefloor but which will be much more enjoyable in your old beat up Datsun.
Recently, p e a c e FIRE has sent out a new track to the ever growing blogosphere: the epic “Sapphire” is quite a challenge to one’s time management as it clocks in at 11min 8secs. Long tracks seem to be a common phenomenon in the age of software assisted sound production (just imagine what it would have felt like for a 1983 punk drummer to constantly hammer on his drum set for 11 minutes and you know why we didn’t get these songs two decades ago…). But this guy really keeps me listening, at least for most of the song. There is such a relaxed feel to it though, that you would not notice if it played on repeat for two hours.
While this could mean that “Sapphire” is boring, I do not intend to say that: much to the contrary! p e a c e FIRE could have easily made 4 different songs out of these 11 minutes instead of glueing this all together. But it is brilliant, just when you think the song will end, it comes back to hit you with more, oceans of synth. And if you are in a rush, just listen to GRUM‘s awesome edit of the track, which is “only” 7 minutes long. The young Brit gives the drums some more reverb and makes the whole production a little denser. I love it! And I am in a rush.
BUT: I still have some time to present to you a super-extra new remix of “Baghdad Rainbow” by Keenhouse out of Los Angeles, premiering here on Trash Menagerie!

Sapphire is genius. It’s that dark, 80′s synth sound that I crave. Grum did an amazing job, as usual. Keenhouse, awesome as well. One more producer to put on my list of favorites. Thanks PD
