The Bodega

via ChiefBodega.com

via ChiefBodega.com

In the last 3 months New York City has felt a quiet roar coming from across the Brooklyn Bridge. Off the JMZ to Myrtle Avenue, deep in the heart of Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood, is a bodega. But this bodega doesn’t sell $1 40’s, $0.50 Twinkies, or cheap cigarettes, but it does sell an affordable time of your life. The Bodega is an up and coming project from the Chief Magazine boys Andy Smith and Ed Zipco, and it’s working. A cheap, out-of-the-way venue, in which lots of people somehow find there way to and go bat-shit crazy.

Arriving at The Bodega was for me as much of a whim as any other music-related gem I discover via the internet or word-of-mouth. Luckily the night I decided to attend, it was one something of a treat for The Bodega. Playing out that night was Morsy of Nanachill.com and a bright young B-More/Bootybass talent, as well as Famous Friends (Finger on the Pulse), and Mr. Andersonic with a live MPC-set. From the moment I arrived and felt the first trickle of sweat along my forehead, there was no doubt that this was the best party I’ve been to so far (exception goes to Diplo @ T&B for obvious reasons). More than even the urgent sounds of throbbing Booty Bass, it was the crowd that was staggering.

Certainly Daft Punk at Coachella 2006 was enough to make people lose their shit, not to mention the occasional Studio B performance by M.I.A., or most often at Death By Audio. But that Thursday night (yes, Thurs.) brought one of the more diverse (skull caps and dolphin floatees) and apeshit crowds I’ve ever witnessed. At even the slightest sound of the Baltimore Club clap and shake, kids were applauding and jumping with praise. At one point in the evening, the invisible and visceral ooze of crowd pleasure has reached a peak and out came a large stuffed horse, probably won by a lucky girl at one of the many Coney Island water-gun games. The horse, in a flurry of passion and impulse was thoroughly molested by a twosome of B-Boys in the middle of the dance floor. Between furious humpings and the occasional launch into the air, there was little if anything anybody could do to justify what was going on.

Arriving at Bodega at 1AM and leaving at 4AM felt short-lived. But walking out the door I made sure to ask a Bodega faithful what the deal was. I was then introduced to the General Manager Steve, who being extremely accommodating agreed to meet with me in the coming week. After a casual walk around Union Square and a few riffs on the current musical scene, Steve put me in touch with the founders/owner Andy Smith and Ed Zipco. And after a few $1 PBR’s at Soundfix, I came to understand the stoppage in time that was my Thursday night.

Much like any young party-throwers, Ed and Andy liked to throw big ones. At their old loft space in Bushwick they threw dozens of police-happy ragers. These weren’t just ragers though, they were concerts. With friends in bands and as DJ’s, they became notorious for their themed parties for events like the Super Bowl and Halloween. Unfortunately some of these ended with blacked out girls peeing on neighbor’s A/C machines and providing a golden rain to those unlucky enough to be nearby. As the ease of party throwing quickly gave way to the forces in blue, they took them to bars and music venues.

But like any established venue here in New York, these events came with large cover fees and $12 drinks. Dissatisfied with the traditional annals of party throwing, it was time for a creation of their own. With Chief Magazine as their original baby, Ed and Andy had already built a DIY space. And when they caught wind of a crooked bodega space going up for lease last April, they went for broke.

Rotted, dying and possibly full of dead, the space they decided would be their new project was more of an adventure than a project. Filled to the brim with junk, rotting walls, and surgical equipment(they don’t hypothesis on this one), they invited their friends and family to camp out inside and begin renovation.

Andy On His Lunch Break

Andy On His Lunch Break

Over a month later and 12-hr days every day, they rebuilt walls, hauled innumerable amounts of trash and filth from the belly of the bodega, and stacked more debt than all of it combined. By the first week of June they had their first party, and people showed up. Despite a broken stage their first night and a few construction errors, they had, for all they knew, the biggest financial mistake of their lives sitting on 1089 Broadway in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Looking at the Myspace page for The Bodega, you’ll notice a series of dates for the month of August. Particularly though, you’ll notice that this week is booked in its entirety. Ed and Andy when I talked to them said they were willing to try anything at this point. That they haven’t had a “bad night.” (Save for a punk set ending in shattered glass and a bloody lead singer). At Santo’s Party House, Andrew WK’s mixed blessing, they require $8000 at the bar in order for outside booking to come play. Ed and Andy offered me a chance to play out before I left, ya know, just for fun. To the Chief boys, The Bodega is our space, and if you or I think we can throw a great party, they think so too.

Ed and Andy told me they didn’t have a grand vision necessarily, but just wanted to continue the success of their projects (Chief Mag, The Bodega, Chief Records) and see their musician friends garner the success they deserve. But if everything truly works out, the Chief boys have something unprecedented on their hands. With the excpetion of Fader’s rising FADERlabel, there is no other triad of business force like what they have begun.

With plans to have arts installations, a liquor license, and a fully operational basement space, The Bodega is most certainly here to stay. Perhaps next in line should be the Chief Rail, transporting the young and the restless from the Island and to the BK. But no matter, The Bodega location is almost like a filter, as only the dedicated and truly restless (passionate) come to witness what they’ve been itching for here in New York for a long time.

Friday night will mark the 2nd “Night of the Jams” since I’ve been here. DJ Tameil of the infamous Unruly Records. Unruly Records, for those who don’t know or are too lazy to click the aforementioned link, is the very first Baltimore Club label, started by Scottie B and Shawn Caesar. Other notable Bodega artists include, Chief Record’s family Ninjasonik, Japanther, Juiceboxxx, The Death Set, Danger, Spitzer, and The So So Glos.

On Friday night, the evening of Night of the Jams, take a moment in your “face-down-ass-up,” to look around the Bodega walls and around the room at those in attendance. Most likely you’ll see Ed and Andy, beers in fist, smiling and laughing at what they created, still in disbelief, but having the time of their lives for the 4th time that week.

The Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival

BEMF

This Sunday marked the first ever Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, hosted by Street Attack, Famous Friends, and Impose Magazine. Covering local Brooklyn artists for some time now, Impose Magazine has come to be an important fixture in the Brooklyn community, and a trustworthy source for pithy coverage of the musical oasis that can be the Brooklyn neighborhood. Street Attack and Famous Friends, the primary hosts for this year’s BEMF, are an innovative and resourceful duo that pull all stops. So when the poster went up for BEMF recently, it should be no surprise that the list of sponsors ranged from Miller Lite to the Izze Beverage Co. Even less of a surprise though was the quality of electronic artists and DJs they culled to headline their very first electronic music festival.

Located in The Yard, the notorious outdoor music space in Park Slope, the festival ran from 12PM to 9PM in an epic day of diverse beats and rippling bass. Headlining the event was Brooklyn-by-Venezuela group Todosantos, already featured here on Trash, and Treasure Fingers(see his recent Trash write-up here, and of course the beloved duo, Purple Crush. Throughout the afternoon, though, there was a strong collection of up and coming acts like Lismore, The Glass, Finger On the Pulse, Neon Coyote, and Cobra Krames.

Arriving in the late afternoon, just as the sun was letting up on a crowd of Sparks ignited Brooklynites, I felt what was a strong community of music supporters, friends artists, and the usual blog-league members making sure Ableton mixtapes sounded just as good live. Luckily for those drunk enough by the time Cobra Krames went on, it didn’t matter, as his blend of Blatimore Club and party mash-ups were perfectly crowd pleasing and genre-bending. Stringing together Top 40 Rap and Pop hits with his flavor of B-more stomp, I was surprised not to hear a Journey mash-up amongst his arsenal.

Following Cobra was The Glass, one of the live acts present that day. With their blend of slightly sweet electro-pop, they sung the kind of late-night drunken ballads you might associate with a group of Daft Punk loyalists, suffering from a night of blissed out synths. Unfortunately for The Glass, they spent too much time at the Sparks tent and not enough time at the Izze tent, and relied too heavily on their friends to hype their boozed-down set. Luckily Finger on the Pulse, DJ and producer of The Glass supplied a quick-set of Armand Van Helden remixes to give us a good taste in our mouths beforehand.

For BEMF attendees that day, Purple Crush was clearly a significant draw, and I too was excited to see fellow Islander (Bainbridge Island, Washington) Isla Cheadle and her beatman Jared Selter get freaky on stage in Neon and Nikes. Definitely a highlight of the evening, Isla brought the party, bar none, and got little girls to shake their money makers in feminine glory. Pairing slightly maligned synth-pop and chugging Madonna-disco, Isla rapped, sang, and hyped with a natural frontman femininity that won over the headier skeptics like myself. With tunes like “Fuck the DJ” and “Marry Me,” Purple Crush’s first album “Blog Party” is a must-grab in a sea of uninspired Justice-fallout.

After Purple Crush and after a French-house heavy set from Treasure Fingers, who by virtue of market forces or purely bass-blown ear drums, has been invited to join the ranks of the Fools Gold family, a tour de force in dance music’s finest. One third of Evol Intent, perhaps the State’s best and last contribution to Drum n’ Bass, Treasure Fingers had the presence of your classic UK DJ/producer: techy, cerebral, and an invisible hand on the feet of the crowd. And Treasure Fingers could have just pressed play and returned to the beer garden because his flawless set of ethereal electro had some long-time fans and a drunk-happy crowd brought to their knees that Summer evening at The Yard.

Best and last for me was Todosantos, the Venezuelan trio of young hearts, making the only progressive music that was played that day. Drawing on their love for the music of their hometown (Cumbia, Soca, Reggaeton), as well as the reverberations from abroad (Speed Garage, Baile Funk, Miami Bass, Bassline), Todosantos represents what M.I.A. could only start, and what people like Pharaoh (Todosantos producer), Mariana (Todosantos video editor), and their lead singer (?) are calling “Tukky Bass.” On the wave of their hit song and EP “Acid Girlzzz,” Todosantos brought on the warm-darkness of the night with a rip roaring set of colorful video editing from Mariana and a fiery collection of bass heaviness from Pharaoh. A part from their sing-along set of quick one-liners and hollers, they actually seemed in love with what they were doing.

With a diverse collection of musicians and extremely-well hosted party in a beautiful space, Impose’s first Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival has no doubt set the tone for an upcoming year of exciting music from the electronic sounds of the world. More than ever we’re seeing the synthesis of all things musical, and Impose, much like other music-forward artists and critics, see this synthesis as the great calling to unite under Summer sun, fueled by warm, thick beats and the nutrients of corporate money, an increasingly smart trick to support the arts. And stay posted with Impose Magazine as they post pictures of buckwild hipsters gettin’ down in the sun.

LONDON DEBUT OF MONTREAL’S TURBO CRUNK YOUNGBLOODS - MOFOMATRONIX

If NYC has Machine Drum and norm REX (I’d tie in the rave up of Trouble & Bass too), LA has Fly Lo, edIT and The Glitch Mob, Glasgow & Edinburgh have LuckyMe and London has Patchwork Pirates and Thugs & Hugs, then Montreal has Turbo Crunk. The laser bass destroyers / sweat shop party / soundsystem / collective of Mofomatronix, Lunice, Blingmod and Megasoid (alias of murder beats stalwart Sixtoo aka Speakerbruiser and Hadji Bakara of Wolf Parade aka Robert Downey DJ). It’s swangin’ electronic-sonic alchemy, low end twisted bassbin beats and rap music. The future of hip hop? It’s definitely the now. Got the city on lock.

After smashing LuckyMe’s infamous Ballers Social Club party in Glasgow, Mofomatronix travel to London this Thursday 14th August to play the opening party for KARBORN’S Nature’s Concrete exhibition alongside KidTwist (aka Drums Of Death) at ArtKandy gallery, top of Brick Lane, east London, E2 7DG.

Terence: Can you introduce Mofomatronix?

Mofos: We are two dudes with a one-track mind. Obsessed with all the same filthy rap, disgusting electronic music and sweaty clubs, we try to synthesize all of that into a hybrid live PA/DJ set using laptops, midi controllers and sometimes hardware. A serious and honest love for crunk, hyphy, pop, grime, dubstep, and techno keeps us interested and inspired by a multitude of genres and scenes.

Terence: How about the Turbo Crunk crew… how did you all hook up?

Mofos: Turbo Crunk is Megasoid, Blingmod, Lunice and ourselves. We had been fans of Sixtoo since our early high school days, and started attending the Megasoid nights as soon as they started up, in a tiny 150 person capacity cave-like venue called the Zoobizarre, at which we had our own monthly (Bass Culture). We crossed paths when their man Blingmod played our night and completely murdered it, and we found out about Lunice, this dude attending the same college as us, through Rustie’s top friends, which still boggles my mind to this day. As we were clicking away at profiles on MySpace trying to find some new heat, we came across Lunice’s page, then noticing he was actually from Montreal. A few days later a saw the dude walking down the hallway of my school. Completely nuts.

Terence: What’s up in Montreal right now? How’s the summer doing for the bass heads and gal dem?

Mofos: Montreal is a very vibrant city and the nightlife is out of control. After-hour burners and loft parties are the summer steelo. So are 700-person boat parties and renegade outdoor soundsystems (Megasoid have firmly established themselves as the ultimate party-rockers).

Terence: What do you think about quality control vs. availability of music within online communities?

Mofos: We are definitely saturated with music nowadays, although it’s great that it’s all available and that so many people can find an output. This is the ultimate democratization of music, as anyone with a guitar, synth or software can materialize their ideas and have people listen to them. It also gives a chance to the most obscure regional rap movements to surface. No one would have heard of “Whoop Rico” or “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” outside of The South if it wasn’t for YouTube and MySpace!

Terence: What’s the secret to making crap ya’ll self basslines and dynamite claps?

Mofos: We finish our tracks an hour before showing up to the club, and we end up performing them and shouting at each other, going: “Yeah, I think this one knocks hard enough, this one needs louder claps…” We are also fans of hyphy and dubstep, whose sound aesthetics are surprisingly similar: crazy bass and high ends from space.

Terence: Can you drop an outro message in your best Canadian slang…

Mofos: “Double Whopper on my side, like We’re Burger King…”

Etan’s Greenwich Mean Report

Etan

It is quite an honor for an artist to have their music played on BBC’s Radio 1. An achievement that would elate even the biggest fish in the vast music pond. So when a remix of The Death Set’s “Impossible” by Boston’s Etan was aired on U.K.’s Mary Anne Hobbs show in March and in June on Australia’s RTR ‘Out To Lunch Show‘ with Gemma Pike, feelings must have been high! Etan’s remix of “Morning Tide” by The Little Ones crashed the airwaves again on Colin Murray’s Radio 1 show in June. Indeed a start to a fine summer.

Prior to the radio hype, two of Etan’s remixes - The Death Set’s “Impossible (Etan’s Positive Outlook)” (on The Death Set’s ‘Around the World’ 7″) and Daedelus’s “Hrs:Mins:Secs (Etan’s Greenwich Mean Report)”, landed on long time favorite U.K. imprint Ninja Tune. But first came the Tronstep Remixes 12″ with bootleg dance treatment for Caribou, Crystal Castles, and Justice on Broader than Broadway Records – listen at Tronstep Remixes. With a full length in the works for Ninja Tune, out in 2009 - 2010, the future is looking day-glo bright for the young Bostonian.

Music has been running through the veins of 21 year old Etan (aka Nate Donmoyer), since he first heard the Amen breakbeat at age 13. Influenced by Grizzly Bear, Blonde Redhead, daft punk, Radiohead, and The Beatles, Etan describes his sound as “taking the colors I like from electronic music and using them in a song form that may not fit the genre from which they were stolen.”

Modest in stating that luck and a nice guy is what has brought him exposure, Etan has the talent and skill to back it all. “It’s all about being prepared for when luck chooses you,” he says “for me it completely began with two friends at a shop called Proletariat in Cambridge, MA who let me leave mixtapes on the checkout counter.” These mixtapes fell into the hands of a prolific Boston promoter/journalist named David Day who liked Etan’s sound and interviewed him. “He was the first guy to book me in clubs and invited me into the basstown crew. Everything has really been luck.”

Good fortune is on Etan’s side. Surrounded by a rising crew of talent, Basstown breed, consisting of Dj Die Young, Volvox, Red Foxx, Plus Move, Baltimoroder and several other talented folks, Etan continues to cultivate his craft and go beyond. He plays drums in a band called Passion Pit and has written music for “Lost Friend”, a short animation (see video below) by Susan Chien, which can be seen at the 2008 Boston Underground Film Festival.

With upcoming remixes for Radioclit, Micachu, Ghislain Poirier and his hands in a bit of everything, Etan is proving to be inspiring and unstoppable. If it all keeps up, I have a sneaking suspicion we’re all going to be pining for Etan in the coming year! Now check out the solid remixes kicking off with one of my favorite Death Set remixes!!

Windish Agency Expands It’s Roster

Today, Windish Agency President, Tom Windish, announced the addition of a new agent, Steve Goodgold, formerly of Vital Talent and Chaotica. He brings with him a roster of over thirty artists including Sasha & Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Midnight Juggernauts, Roni Size, DJ Krush, Black Ghosts, and Laurent Garnier.

“I’ve known Steve for many years and he’s a great agent. I’m very excited for the unique opportunities that will come up for our combined rosters. Steve will remain in New York, finally giving us a presence on the East coast.” - Tom Windish

Billboard Magazine recently named Tom Windish as an “Indie Visionary”, and I wholeheartedly agree. Tom has stayed true to himself, the music, and the artists he represents. Over the years he has assembled an amazing group of individuals to work alongside him, each member of the team being music tastemakers and fans alike. Integrity in the music industry is hard to find these days, Windish is blazing the trail, and I hope others are taking notes, we need more of this kind of thinking. They have struck a true balance between art and business, congrats to all, and cheers to their continued future success.

FLASHBACK!!!

ms. pacman

Oh man. A few weeks ago I was searching for dubstep on Juno (yeah…I know) and I came across this song. It was one of those moments when you are like “OMG I just found the dopest song and who the HELL are these people? What is RQM and who on Earth is Oliver $?” Then I start looking through the rest of their stuff and I am just thinking “How the hell did I NOT know about this???”. Oliver $ might be my new favorite dude EVER right now. I sent this to a few friends super excited about it and they were kinda like “um. yeah. calm down Jess”. Posting this song really made my whole week.

Also just so you know I will kick every single one of your butts in a classic arcade game of Ms. Pacman. Ask about me.

RQM-Miss Pacman (Oliver $ Remix)

RQM is currently in Barcelona and has been involved in projects such as The Tape, Al Haca, Jahcoozi and many more. “Miss Pacman” is his first solo-single on Exploited Records. His second single together with “Sirius Mo” will be released next year on Exploited. Miss Pacman is the 4th single to be released on Shir Khan’s EXPLOITED! label. And he totally made my Chart! Yeah!

The whole vinyl is available at Juno
Mp3s abvailable at Beatport

Buy Music =)

I found parts of this write up I received to be funny. It even asks the same questions I asked myself when I heard it. And it explains the song a lot better than I would be able to. Here you go…

RQM ‘MISS PACMAN

“What’s a vintage Atari game got to do with a threesome? Or Boogie Nights with the recycling culture of club music? And why is it that Red Wine lipstick tastes like watermelon? And what does it mean exactly when a girl is acting new rave patterned? Random as it may sound, it all makes perfect sense once the needle drops in the groove.

‘Miss Pacman’ is RQM’s first 12” - a dance floor monster that comes in 4 different booty tingling versions. The storyline is the equivalent of a pheromone-Molotov-cocktail guaranteed to get you in the mood and put a smile on your face even if you’re not the hardcore clubbing type. Hyperlink filled lyricism and the production acrobatics aside, what makes this tune special is that it sounds absolutely sincere and effortless.

The original track produced by Boris Meinhold (Micatone/Sonarkollektiv) is a radio friendly banger with a slight twist of pop. RQM delivers his lines smoothly and with such ease that at times it sounds like he’s right by your ear, coaxing you into doing no good, his accomplice Eva Be (Sonarkollektiv/Best Seven) drives the track home with a sexy breath of a chorus: ‘You can’t leave without doing this!!’ And what is there left to do, but to listen and obey?!

Oliver$ (Made To Play/Berlin) takes the track to a prime time dance floor with his tight, sweaty click-house edit stuttering and cutting RQMs lines to give the song a drug anthem twist. Mission accomplished!! The Dj Chernobyl (producer of Bonde de Role) remix goes straight for the hip and the bubble bounce by adding that baile funk sense of humor and formula.

The crackin’ artwork for ‘Miss Pacman’ is by Marek Polewski from Floor 5 who used recycled famous old record covers.”

Movin’ & Shakin’ It Treasure Fingers

One of the catchiest songs you’ll hear this summer is “Cross the Dancefloor“, a really fresh track with a bit of funk and elements of filter house. It’s so infectious and feel good, that the dance floor is immediately filled whenever the song is played. The producer behind the track is Treasure Fingers, a former Atlantan that recently moved to Brooklyn.

While some may know Treasure Fingers through hard step/drum & bass act, Evol Intent, most people are completely unaware of his history. And even though there is a huge trend of drum & bass producers turned electro blog house producers, Treasure Fingers is completely different. Offering music that is more fresh and feel good and roller rink ready then pump your fist, stage dive, and wear neon.

“Cross the Dancefloor” and other productions were so ear-catching that Fools Gold scooped up Treasure Fingers for a 12″. Updating and remastering the track to be even better than before and getting superstar producers Laidback Luke, Lifelike, and Curses! to lend remixes to the release. Then they packaged it up and made it beautiful and ready to purchase through beatport, turntable lab, and itunes.

To celebrate the release, I met up with Treasure Fingers and we did an interview and he also provided us with one of the remixes of the 12″ single.

sirhan: so, you are in evol intent, why did you decide to start treasure fingers?

treasure fingers: i had always done some house/funk style production stuff on the side and just never pushed it. i played some of it for jordan (of Snowden) one day and he really pushed me to get it out there. The first treasure fingers remix I did was for Snowden’s “Anti Anti”.

sirhan: how do you feel about the way its going now?

treasure fingers: I love it, it just took off and everything started falling into place.

sirhan: you still tour with evol intent?

treasure fingers: yeah, it’s a little sparse with bookings right now because we are all working on other projects at the moment but we’ll have a couple new releases out later this year though and we just released a full length album in march.

sirhan: so you just released, “cross the dance floor” tell me a little bit about it and how did you get such awesome remixes?

treasure fingers: That track actually started out as just a funky instrumental house type tune, then one night I decided to put some vocals on it, then got the idea to have my girlfriend sing a part to play off mine. I meant to write out full verses and put into a pop song structure, but after I showed the rough draft version to Preston/Kiss Atlanta, he wanted to blog it as is, so I mixed it down and let it go as more of a club track. Fool’s Gold sorted out all of the remixes. Once I signed it to them, they hit me up one day and was like.. ‘hey what do you think about these guys to do remixes?’
I’m a fan of all those guys so I was pretty excited. Chromeo also did an amazing remix. It’s going to be featured on a Fool’s Gold CD.

sirhan: so whats the next thing you’re doing?

treasure fingers: I’ve done a bunch of remixes over the past couple months that should all be getting released soon. I’ve got 2 more that I’m wrapping up over the next week, then I’ve got an australian tour. When I get back from that, I plan on working on some original material again.

sirhan: so this is a typical question but who are some of your influences and who should kids go diggin for?

treasure fingers: lots of the 80s funk/disco era stuff. midnight star, shalamar, zapp & roger, dazz, carl carlton. I was really influenced by the 90s french house stuff as well.

sirhan: any particular records by those producers?

treasure fingers: carl carlton - swing that sexy thing / dance with you, most people just know ’she’s a bad mama jama’ by him, but he’s got so much dope stuff!

sirhan: what about new stuff?

treasure fingers: love a lot of the new lifelike stuff, symbolone, that really synthy euro sound, and miami horror also.

sirhan: so you’ve been to tons of places whats you best place so far?

treasure fingers: i think the best / craziest parties ive played have been in ATL or LA. I love traveling though, every city has it’s own charm. I think sometimes, the small towns that you don’t expect much from turn out to be amazing.

sirhan: so, any good stories from your travels?

treasure fingers: i’ve never had anything super crazy. there’s always something going wrong though. last time I was in LA, my door lock had broke after I had left for the gig and no one could fix it and I had an early flight the next morning. they ended up giving me another room, then breaking the door down at the last minute the next morning so I could get my stuff out… I’m not a heavy drinker so I don’t have any crazy club stories.

sirhan: music obiviously takes a lot of time whats your other passions?

treasure fingers: I used to paint/draw a lot. I’d like to get back to that when I get the time. that’s probably the closest thing to a passion, other stuff I do in free time is just for relaxation/fun. xbox360, movies, friends, whatever.

sirhan: so lets close off here any advice to budding producers or closing words?

treasure fingers: It’s kind of contradicting, but find a really good producer and copy them until you can get your engineering and mixdowns really tight, then switch it up and try to do something completely original and different. Most producers lack in one or the other, so I think the key is having something that sounds really fresh and original, that also sounds great sonically.
Closing words: go buy “Cross the Dancefloor” & bug your local promoter until they book me.

Little Jinder Meets the Kings of Bass

LittleJinder

Who would have thought that the beloved kings of bassline heaviness, NYC’s Trouble & Bass crew, would release an EP so sweet and pure that it conjures up thoughts of a dream-like world where young girls float on billowy clouds?? If purity is what T&B was in search of, they’ve found it in the ethereal voice of Stockholm’s Little Jinder.

For their 12th release, Trouble & Bass have set their sights on the soft sensations of Josefine Jinder, the 20-year-old Swede with whispering Bjork-esque vocals. Little Jinder shares her thoughts on the discovery of synthesizers around the same time she discovers boys and sings of three-dimensional space and symmetry in “Polyhedron“.

Self-written and produced by Little Jinder, the 5 song debut EP, ‘Polyhedron‘ (released 5th August on Trouble & Bass Recordings), will leave you reminiscing of a time in your youth when your heart was flooded with those ‘first feelings’. Catch her on tour in support of the EP release with gigs in Berlin, Helsinki, and Stockholm and a tentative U.S. tour in fall!

Head over to Discobelle and listen to the heavenly remix of Little Jinder’s “Eat My Fear” by Drop The Lime.

Storms Kill Power in Chicago!!!!

lightning

Wowza!! There was a major storm here in Chicago, the most lightning the city has ever seen, that knocked the power out in thousands of businesses and homes for the past few days!! What a lack of ELECTRICITY can do to those that spend their lives on the internet and have frozen goods in their refrigerators!!!!!!! I am happy to report that we are back with power and I for one will be crashing the Trash Menagerie site good and hard with some delayed posts and music in the coming days so, look out! Cheers! xx lovestar
