Balaton Sound Festival
The crowd at Balaton Sound Festival
The reason I haven’t been around for a minute is because I’ve been in Hungary at the Balaton Sound Festival, which took place at one of Hungary’s fanciest beaches, Zamárdi, along the shore of Lake Balaton!
This festival was a new concept for me as firstly I had never even heard of it and secondly, it was very relaxed. After becoming accustomed to festivals in England where queuing for the toilet for one hour and rushing like a mad women to even get a beer is the norm, it was refreshing to stumble upon a festival that not only had clean facilities but also had a chilled out atmosphere and a fabulous cocktail list too.
With a distinct mixture of genres from electro house, folk, and dance to electro jazz (it seems this festival was fond of electro everything) this festival had an absolute feast of delights to choose from. With bands like B52’s, Goldfrapp and Massive Attack performing across the three day festival alongside DJ’s like James Holden, Armin Van Buuren, Krafty Kuts, Mylo and headliner Fat Boy Slim (aka Norman Cook) this festival was definitely something to get excited about.
Even if rushing from stage to stage to watch each band isn’t your thing it is amazing to just be able to lie around on a Heineken cushion by the lake and sip a large Mojito whilst absorbing the distant sounds of jazz from a nearby stage. The only thing that slightly hindered the overall experience was the sight of so many men adorning drastically tight Speedos – ouch!
