Cryptonites – Hands Of God

The exciting EP ‘Hands of God’, birthed to the world, 15th May, from the ever so excellent Swiss duo, (with one of the coolest logos), Cryptonites is finally out!! Their first EP on their label Destruction Music, containing three smashing tunes “Hands of God“, “Cruzaders” and “Zodiac“, are sure to cause some serious mind destruction.

If you follow along to the content posted by some of our favorite bloggens, who are bloggin til the death – Missingtoof, Big Stereo, Discodust, Disco Workout, Disco Punk, Hipster Runoff, etc, then you’ve probably come to know and love the exceptional work being produced, sliced and diced by Cryptonites.

The guys have completed a video for their 2nd tune on ‘Hands of God’, which can be viewed below. They’re also nearing the final days of the remix competition they had running for their track “Can’t Give You Up“, which comes to a close 2nd June. We’re eager to see who the chosen 5 will be!!

Cryptonites have been kind enough to send over their latest remix of “Paper Piano“, for their mates from The bianca Story, which in their opinion is, “one of the best rock bands in Switzerland!” Cryptonites deliver a remix that supplies a charming track with a grinding pulse that is sure to beat loudly.

I’ve also posted some recent and older Cryptonites tunage that I am highly keen on!! I absolutely love “Glow” and the remix for Arctic Monkeys, “Old Yellow Bricks“. And it was only until recently that I heard their Love MotelJe Pleure” remix, a favorite amongst countless Love Motel remixes! Lets hope Cryptonites do a European and North American tour soon!!!!

Passenger meet Plump Djs!

Brighton-based Passenger, are full of stories to tell, with songs of heartbreak, disappointment, rejection, being jaded, you’d almost feel as if you’d have to sit down with yourself at the pub, beer in hand and contemplate life. Despite the lowliness to it, these words have a quirkiness about them and have probably found a place within all of us at some point or another.

If you prefer to live life at a faster pace, Passenger frontman Mike Rosenberg has written lyrics and loans his voice to “Torque of the Devil“, the forthcoming release from one of my all time favorites, Plump Djs!! “Torque of the Devil” appears on the hotly anticipated album ‘Headthrash‘, due for release 2nd June, available at Finger Lickin! Belgian boys The Subs have added their vibrant remix skills on Torque as well!! Check the above MySpace pages for a listen.

Beyond songwriting, Mike also dabbles in film editing. He has put together the nice animation featured above, for “Saturday Night TV“. Passenger are set to release their first EP, ‘Night Vision Binoculars‘, digitally in the US on 24th of June and will follow up with their debut album release, “Wicked Man’s Rest” late summer.

If you’re for an evening out with new and good sounds, then you’ll be pleased to know that Passenger will perform two shows in the US this June! Catch them, 9th June, Los Angeles, CA at Hotel Cafe and 11th June, New York, NY at Mercury Lounge.

MGMT Bring the Party with Electric Feel

MGMT hit us up with their newest video for “Electric Feel“, day glow Lord of the Rings party action going on in this one, mixed in with the bands chillaxed, smooth and sexy sounds. At this year’s Coachella, it was a hot blistering day in the desert, but it didn’t stop their fans. Their tent was over capacity, no one could move. People were struggling to get as close as they could, and boxing out for space on the grass. I was in the tent at one point, but getting crushed to death, no one wanted to move to let me out, afraid they might lose their prime vantage point to see the band. I ventured outside the tent, trying to find a spot that left me with a little wiggle room, and that too, proved to be a difficult task. I spotted others in my predicament, members of the Institubes crew, Pedro and his fellow Ed Bangers, Danny Masterson aka Mom Jeans Hyde from “That 70′s Show”. MGMT delivered an amazing performance, and I earned a bright red burn, braving the sun, it was great.

Synth, Droid and Disco

“The music I create is an updated take on the space disco and synth music I love from the past, like the band SpAce (with Didier Marouani), Klaus Schulze, and other early pioneers”, says Washington DC-based Triobelisk, a man who clearly embraces all things synth, droid and disco.

Listening to Triobelisk’s music, one may feel as though they should be living on a space ship, orbiting the planets above. Like the much loved Valerie Collective from the West coast of France, Triobelisk has a special place in his heart for sounds that travel back to the 80′s that create a universe of multi-layered synths, with drum machine samples and complex sounds.

With one foot in the past and one in the future, Triobelisk has been creating music since the early 90′s when he was in a post-punk band called ‘Frodus’. Years later, he developed an obsession with 8-bit and Ableton. “The stuff is constantly expanding and I’ve been bringing in some 8-bit sounds here and there on newer songs like “Skyrealms“, in an attempt to slowly write a ‘space opera’ album”, says Triobelisk.

His recent March debut EP, “Zoneplex“, on the Swedish Columbia imprint, is loaded with excellent tracks that are sure to expand the mind. “Xrystal City”, “Zoneplex”, “Zardoz”, “Hiram’s Key” and “Explosion”, will not only alter your senses, they just may transport you to another dimension.

Stay posted for more Triobelisk as he has just created a synth-heavy remix for Sunny Day Sets Fire (I AM SOUND Records) and is planning to take his material to a live electronic set with some uncommon MIDI controllers. Listen to the superb “Xrystal“, a remix of it by Dmerit and the newest track “Skyrealms“. Looking forward to hearing more and thanks to Swedish Columbia for tossing this our way!!

Get Wet & Dirty!

Gameboy / Gamegirl – Sweaty Wet / Dirty Damp
Directed by Rhett Wade-Ferrell for Moop Jaw

Gameboy/Gamegirl‘s hit single “Sweaty Wet / Dirty Damp” from March 07 (taken from their debut EP ‘Golden Ghetto Sex‘), is superb on its own, but the video really completes it!! And with summer lurking, it’s the perfect time to see it again! Doesn’t it just make you want to jump through a hose or something?! Watch the Aussies gettin down in the lot, feelin the heat in the sun. They come fully equipped with shades, chains, bellies, bow ties, rackets, subs and plenty of attitude!!!!

So what do you do with a ‘dirty’ track? Make it dirtier. Which is the exact kind of treatment Markus Wormstorm has given “Sweaty Wet / Dirty Damp“. Caution, it’s sure to cause moments of sexual fantasy even out of the prudest individual. Go on now, get wet!!!!

Gameboy/Gamegirl – Sweaty Wet / Dirty Damp (Markus Wormstorm Yeah Mix)

Gameboy/Gamegirl – Golden Ghetto Sex EP is available thru Sweat It Out Records on iTunes, Beatport and fine retailers!
