Hello My Name Is Chicago

Chicago

If you are in the Chicago area tonight, be sure to check out “Hello My Name is Chicago”, which is a collaborative effort within Chicago’s artistic community showcasing over 30 artists with concentrations in the world of music and visual art. “A collection of renowned art, featuring the city of Chicago – it’s culture, it’s texture, it’s landscape, and it’s inhabitants”.

One of my all time favorite graffiti artists/illustrators out of Chicago, Chris Silva, will feature his work tonight. As a graffiti lover, I have always had a strong appreciation for Chris’s work which was once sprawled across a great part of Chicago, in its pure state. Also featured is Revise CMW (Chicago’s Most Wanted) and Travis Lampe whose unique and mischievous characters I am very keen on!

Normies Beware! Don’t Drink the Water and Don’t Fuck the Celebrities…

BBC - Ashton and Demi

As reported in BBC and amNew York, Ashton Kutcher, his A-list pals who attended his 30th birthday at Socialista and anyone else who visited the NYC starfucker hang between February 7, 8 or 11 have been advised to get a Hepatitis A shot. According to the health department, a bartender was diagnosed with the disease, and anyone who had patronized the bar since his infection is at risk.

Armin Armiri, Socialista’s owner and former Bungalow 8 doorman, has described the upscale Cubano-Marxist themed bar as a “peasant cafe”–albeit one with pricey drinks and velvet rope door policy. At the risk of generalizing, I’m gonna assume 99% of the readers on Trash Menagerie don’t know anyone who’s ever visited the bar (I actually know two, but both DJ there to make good money playing bad music). For the other 1%, here’s some incentive to get your friends to check out the cooler places in town.

All Points West Festival Line-Up Announced

Yeah, Radiohead is all I needed to hear. I haven’t seen them live in 2 years, webcasts don’t count. I’m way in. Nice one Goldenvoice & AEG, festivals kind freakin’ rule.

Radiohead have been confirmed as both the Friday and Saturday night headliner for the first-ever ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL. This marks the first time that a cutting-edge band will headline multiple nights of a major U.S. music festival.

Jack Johnson will headline Sunday night of the three-day, multi-stage music and arts festival taking place August 8, 9 and 10 at Liberty State Park in New Jersey. The ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL will also feature performances from Underworld, Kings of Leon, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Cat Power, The Roots and The New Pornographers, among others. More than 40 acts will appear on three stages throughout the 80-acre historic location with panoramic views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Manhattan skyline.

Tickets for ALL POINTS WEST go on sale Friday, February 29 at 12 Noon (ET) via www.ticketmaster.com only. Single day passes are $89 and three-day passes are $258. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit “Friends of Liberty State Park.” The Friends of Liberty State Park is an open space advocacy volunteer organization dedicated to the park’s future as a free, green and non-commercial, urban waterfront oasis.

The ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL is being created in a “green” festival environment. Initial “green” plans include on-site parking for carpoolers only and ample public transportation to and from the site. Ferry service will be available from Manhattan directly to the festival grounds; exact details with ferry schedules will be announced at a later date. Additionally, light rail service via NJ Transit will run directly to the festival grounds. Meanwhile, a limited supply of on-site parking is reserved exclusively for carpoolers. Carpool parking passes are available either as single days for Saturday and Sunday or as a three-day pass for the weekend. Note: four concert tickets are required in order to qualify for carpool parking.

The festival’s name is inspired by the area’s rich history, particularly Ellis Island and the NJ Central Railroad terminal located on the festival site, where many arriving immigrants boarded trains for ALL POINTS WEST.

ALL POINTS WEST is produced by Goldenvoice/AEG Live and Liberty Events in association with the HighLine Ballroom. For up-to-the-minute information on the ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL, visit www.apwfestival.com.

Lillica Libertine Likes Lollies

LillicaLollipop

Never really thought I’d mention the train wreck pop star ‘Britney Spears’ on the Trash blog, however, there is a good reason for it. The track “Britney Spears“, produced by Lillica Libertine, is part of 4 track split EP, each titled after a disastrous celebrity “icon”. The EP is for the run up to Lillica’s first stateside shows in March, with Andy & friends, along side another U.K. favorite, Deekline.

L.A.’s Bul!m!atron has worked up the next track entitled “Nikki Cox”. The format will be free distribution of 4 tracks – 1 by Lillica, 1 by Bul!m!atron and 2 collaborations. Created to look like a comic/zine, they’ve asked their favorite graphic design friends to contribute with the art work, which will then be in a zip file, handed out free at shows and distributed on the internet through blogs. Pretty cool, I want one! Enjoy the disastrous lollipop sucker, “Britney Spears”.

I Don’t Care About Atomic Hooligan, But You Should

Album cover of Sex Drugs and blah blah blah

UK breakbeat bad boys Atomic Hooligan are at it again. Not only are they playing at the 7th Annual Breakspoll Awards on Thursday 28th February in London’s Fabric, but they’re on the verge of releasing their second album, “Sex Drugs and Blah Blah Blah”, an album that will undoubtedly give the breaks community a run for their money.

The album’s label, Botchit & Scarper, have kindly provided us with an exclusive promo mix which blows the trumpet for the boys’ upcoming single “I Don’t Care”, due for release in the next few weeks.

The boys’ mix, a cut and paste job, seems like they’ve just managed to throw in a little bit of every genre, for the hell of it, when actually, it’s all from “Sex Drugs and Blah Blah Blah”. Clever.

The mix starts with “Dirty”, a static-eaten track that will rape your ears if played full blast (do it!) and before you think they’re coming over heavy with the hip hop, wait for the chilled out breaks to quickly roll over like a thick morning fog in “Safeguard”. But don’t get lulled into some blissed out state of mind - the boys will quickly wake you up with the tongue-on-the-battery “Electro Aint Electro”, a tune and a half. Other highlights include the orgasmic-littered “Thief” and “Paper Cuts”.

However, the real winner of the mix is the electro/rock cross-over “I Don’t Care”. I see that being thrown down at indie and break nights alike. Hey, more ounce for your bounce ! Vocals for that track were supplied by London band The Furies Elmo Jones. Nice one.

In addition to the hoo-haa of the single, the 12” release features two great remixes of ‘I Don’t Care’: a breaks reconfiguration from Ctrl Z Vs Pyramid and a German technofication from Tomcraft.

I’ll be seeing Atomic Hooligan next Thursday at Breakspoll, and I can’t wait!

Klaxons and Rihanna live at The Brits, sharing an umbrella, what a combo - eh, eh, eh? Great light show, definitely rivals Kanye and Daft at the Grammy’s.

I think its safe to say, “pyramids are the new black”?

Myspace in Talks with 4 Major Labels to Launch Free Ad Funded Music Offering

As reported by: FiveEight.net

MySpace is apparently in talks with labels to launch a free (and ad-funded) music offering. Those near-legendary “people familiar with the matter” say talks have taken place between the social networking site and all four of the major labels. The service, which boasts 110M users, has attempted to sell downloads before (after striking a deal with Snocap). The decision would see News Corp join a number of other players who are slowly attempting to encroach on Apple’s dominance of the digital download market place. However, the ad-funded model is still very much unproven - with both SpiralFrog and Qtrax struggling to either achieve traction or be (in the latter’s case) taken seriously. Is MySpace simply playing catch-up here? Can it ever really return to its pioneering heyday by utilising as-yet-unproven business models?
