Okay, I’m sitting here at work, when I hear on the radio that Grooverider’s been sentenced to four years in jail and I’m thinking WHAT???!!!

Apparently the legendary drum n bass hero flew out to Dubai to dj back in November, got stopped in the airport where security found 2.16 grams of marijuana and pornography in his luggage. He was essentially accused of drug trafficking, even though he claims he didn’t even know the drugs were in the luggage.

2.6 grams aint a lot, is it?

Dubai, known for their bonkers multi-million dollar buildings, has a zero tolerance drug policy. According to Reuters, this has drastic consequences for people accused of drug trafficking. They say: “Under UAE law, drug trafficking carries a sentence ranging from four years jail to death, though executions are rare. Foreigners convicted of bringing drugs into the Gulf trade and tourism hub normally face jail terms followed by deportation.”

What this means? Fabio will have to host their weekly BBC drum-and-bass programme on his own. And we’ll have start putting together the monthly prison care packages. A bad blow for drum n bass.
