Congorock meets The Mixtape Project

CongorockNLLRMixtape

Lee Norman Williams has had a 20 year long obsession – One that started back when he was a young lad growing up in Bristol, England. Fast forward to today and his obsession has turned itself into a dance record label – No Love Lost Records, based in NYC and named in honor of Tony Wilson.

No Love Lost Records specializes in house, techno and electro artists, as well as signing brand new artists to the label proper. No Love Lost Records also has a nifty little side-project called, “The NLLR Mixtape Project”, which features new and upcoming artists and DJ’s to contribute exclusive mixes. Spanning all genres, there is something appealing for all (we quite like past artists, Lillica Libertine + Zombie Disco Squad). For their ninth guest, they’ve chosen an artist that we are quite keen on, CONGOROCK out of Italy, who was previously featured in November on TM, Congorock Goes it Alone.

Okay so this mix may not be as exclusive as say, London Dubstep artist Burial’s identity, but thanks much to Lee for passing this our way! An excellent mix of acid working well into fidget house. With a podcast coming in March, there are sure to be some exciting things on the platter for No Love Lost Records and The NLLR Mixtape Project in 08′!

Spitzer is Blowing Up!

SPITZER!!!

We just received a nice little email from Spitzer telling us about the progress they’ve made in the past couple of months. For those Trash Menagerie faithful, you might remember the post we did on their first tunes a couple months ago. Well I guess the blog attention that they’ve received has thrust them into the sight-lines of some pretty high profile artists, most notably the renowned diva, Kylie Minogue, who has asked them to do a remix of her single, “In My Arms”. Well, they’ve been kind enough to provide us with said remix to give to you. Frankly, i feel that its the best thing they’ve done yet. Go Spitzer!

In The Name of Love Motel

LoveMotel

The quintessential love motel evokes a string of images that come to mind; a near retro feel, pink tinted lights, wood paneled walls, shag carpet, mirrored ceilings, water beds, and perhaps a scantily clad girl in fish nets to complete the picture. The mood is perfected with sounds coming off the player by Geneva, Switzerland based group, Love Motel.

Three years after their critically acclaimed debut album “Après le paradis”, JP Kazemi and Stéphane Mercier, have returned with a 2nd LP, “Mind the Void”, bringing back something out of the 80’s with them. With Andres Garcia’s skillful production, he mixes glam rock guitars, booty bass and robotic rhythms, whilst keeping it contemporary.

“Invoking a full suite of portraits, Love Motel describes his 21st century through the eyes of a bunch of lost souls (wasted nerds, sadistic gigolos, repentant machos, TV addicts, sadistic gigolos, peroxide femme fatale’s, former dictators and naughty astronauts) looking for salvation. And while the portraits that he paints aren’t that pretty, his sexy musical performance as well as his dark and ironic lyrics transform Mind the Void into an hypnotizing, beautiful and menacing soundtrack of now.”
– Love Motel bio

Love Motel plays the exclusive Heidi parties and has worked with Detroit Grand Pubahs (remember their Sandwiches track? “You can be the bun, and I can be the burger girl, I know you wana do it and we can make sandwiches..”) on vocals for “Dial God USA”. They’ve been getting the love they deserve, having been remixed by several artists, including Leonard de Leonard, Water Lilly, Kaz, Shane Fontane, Cryptonites, Grum and Noise Maker. Listen to all of them on the Love Motel Motel Project remixes page.

Released at the end of October 2007 on Poor Records, “Mind The Void” is due for a late March release in France through La Baleine and is available on beatport and itunes. Cheers to Love Motel’s promoter, Stefan, for alerting me about the group and sending these remixes!! Stay posted for more on this unique, charming act!!

Time Out Chicago on the Blogosphere – A Matter of Opinion

Time Out Chicago editors weigh in on how blogs shape their worlds and name-check the sites they consider bookmark-worthy.

Clubs

Blogs have been nothing short of instrumental in the club-music universe in the last couple of years—witness the emergence of blog house, a term invented to describe the digital remix–sharing frenzy. With DJ-oriented MP3 blogs, the music files themselves can be DJ sets or track remixes, as well as original tracks that clubgoers and DJs can download and play at the club that night.

Discobelle.net DJs and fans of new club music around the world follow blogs like this to hear the next trend before it hits, bringing new styles and unsung classics to clubland faster than ever.

Trashmenagerie.com A small group of underground and industry insiders from Chicago (DJ Local Hero and Lovestar), New York and the U.K. contribute to this site, which features exclusive music from producer chums, alongside coverage of fashion and nightlife events. Inviting participation—it has a drop box for aspiring producers to leave their tracks—its critical function highlights unknown artists with potential. Trashmenagerie has broken out at least one act, Lillica Libertine, a teenage destruco-disco phenom, who released his first EP in January. DJs and producers also trade tracks, remixes and edits on secret, password-protected blogs—for added dance-floor freshness.

Everyoneisfamous.com, klickingandscreaming.com These Chicago-based nightlife photoblogs are an excellent way to find out if that club night you skipped was banging or boring, and whether a new venue is slick or just plain tacky.
