Chicago, Aug 3, 2007 – following the festivities at Lollapalooza, which included a closing set by Daft Punk, in front of 35,000 “Dafter Heads” the club hosting the “Dafter Party”, Green Dolphin, reached capacity with a quickness. Security at the venue, in attempt keep the crowd under control, turned away fellow Chicagoan’s Fall Out Boy – Pete Wentz, Cool Kids & Mano, and Kanye West at the door . The real kicker, Kanye was personally invited by the Daft Crew just a few hours prior, while splitting a few slices of a Busy P – izaa pie. He called Daft’s tour manager to say tell her, “hey, I tried, but peace out!” Man, Chicago, I love you, but that night, you were bringing me down! Talk about TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS!

Thankfully, the Dafter Party itself made up for all of the madness at the door, everyone was definitely getting into it. Who showed up early? The lovely Lollapalooza crowd. M.I.A. , followed by the LCD Soundsystem Crew, Silversun Pickups, The Faint, Danny Masterson (my official festival “buddy”), Kid Sister, and a swarm of others, that had to sneak through the back door entrance to make their way in.

Kavinsky & M.I.A. “Do you want to take a ride in my Testarossa?”

End of the night – boarding the Daft Tour Bus

“That was the best party I’ve been to in Chicago in a long time. I think i lost a good amount of hearing, I was right up against the speaker going mental most of the night.” Brendan Telzrow- Biz 3 Publicity
“Hey! I got in, somehow — we snuck in with some dudes who were just like “yeah, they’re with us”. Good times! It was craaazy once we got in, probably the livest party i’ve been to this year. Super fun!” Amy Phillips – Editor, Pitchfork
“Wow, what a night. I couldn’t stop saying, “this is so amazing!” We arrived around midnight and didn’t stop dancing until close. Ed Banger tore the place apart! Also it was great to see everyone loving on DJ Funk – those French guys sure love him, and I do too. The whole night was amazing, and I thank everyone who made it happen. It was the best part of my trip to Chicago, other than seeing Daft Punk of course.” Rob – a dude that posted a comment on the party

What a bunch of posers.
I did have fun @ that party, but I have to admit, Jordan Z and all those other wankers who try to be “scene” Can kiss my patriot ass.

Time Out Chicago
Nights of note
As for the most memorable nights of Chicago clubbing, Daft Punk’s Lolla after-party with the Rapture merits a mention as does Stones Throw Move at Sonotheque in May with Madlib on the decks. Bar none, the best unexpected vibe in recent months was found at Metro Area’s hush-hush Lava visit. Routinely, reliable club nights like OUTdanced!, downstairs at Debonair as well as the stellar bookings at Smart Bar, Spy Bar and Vision kept us out all night.
