New Years Eve – Hello 2008, Year of The White Flash

Big Numbers - Audio Pimpstress

“Big Numbers – Digital Remix for 2008″
from the Acrylic on Canvas series (2006)

- Lori Riegler –

My last post of the year – i’ll keep it short and sweet . . .

New Years Eve by The Walkmen, from Bows + Arrows LP

New Years Eve – The Walkmen

And Modeselektor feat. Thom Yorke “The White Flash” from the Happy Birthday! LP. Hauntingly beautiful, I am really, truly, IN LOVE with this song right now, its just gorgeous. Going into 2008, having Thom reminding me “you have all the time in the world” is a great thought for the New Year, and contextually fitting all around!

The White Flash – Modeselektor feat. Thom Yorke

White is associated with light, goodness, and innocence. It is considered to be the color of perfection. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation. White can represent a successful beginning. In heraldry, white depicts faith and purity. Flash - a sudden intense burst of radiant energy, a sudden brilliant understanding, or intuition.

Have fun tonight, where ever you may be, stay safe, and thanks to all for a great 2007!

Winter Mixtape

Winter Mixtape, originally uploaded by Trash Menagerie.

Above is the view from my parents window, below is an email I just received from Philip Sherburne . . all around awesome person/DJ/journalist/tastemaker, extraordinare! : ) Thanks Philip, however did you know?!?!

“A few nights ago i put together a mix of sorts — this one’s not at all a “DJ mix,” far more like the mixtapes i used to make as a teenager or young 20-something with, like, time on my hands, and passion. technically nothing fancy — laid out in ableton to facilitate the blends, with a tad of delay or reverb added here or there. mainly it’s just about the tracklist, which is decidedly in a mopey mid-winter mood. if that’s your thing, download and enjoy.”

Philip Sherburne: Every Single Day Is a Yellow Day
(Everybody Had a Hard Year) (72:32; 192kbps)
Susanna and the Magical Orchestra, “Love Will Tear Us Apart” (Rune Grammofon)
White Magic, “Katie Cruel” (Drag City)
Apparat, “Arcadia” (Shitkatapult)
Matthew Dear, “Deserter” (Ghostly)
Iron & Wine, “Naked As We Came” (Sub Pop)
Six Organs of Admittance, “Words for Two” (Drag City)
Michael Andrews Featuring Gary Jules, “Mad World” (Sanctuary)
Tim Buckley, “Song to the Siren” (Elektra)
Talk Talk, “The Colour of Spring” (EMI)
So Percussion, “June” (Cantaloupe Music)
Thom Yorke, “The Eraser” (XL)
Apparat, “Komponent (Telefon Tel Aviv Remix)” (Shitkatapult)
Burial, “Distant Lights” (Hyperdub)
Grizzly Bear, “Easier” (Warp)
Prince, “Condition of the Heart” (Warner/Paisley Park)
Susanna and the Magical Orchestra, “Condition of the Heart” (Rune Grammofon)
März, “Everybody Had a Hard Year” (Karaoke Kalk)
José González, “Love Will Tear Us Apart” (Cortex)

“Also, before I forget, Al Usher (Ewan Pearson’s partner in partial arts) included a new track of mine in a recent mix of his, about which i’m still pretty floored. his mix is genius — lots of slow disco, cosmic weirdness, percoset soul and the like. i’d recommend it highly even without my somehow stumbling into the tracklisting. funny, i’ve occasionally been skeptical about the nu-disco movement but as i’m increasingly sick of cookie-cutter house & techno, some of this stuff is sounding a lot better to me. (i especially dig the slow tempos… 110bpm is the new black.) you can get Al’s mix here:”

Al Usher: Cool in the Pool Mix

Synthetic Rocks Fiesta!

When our fellow bloggers, SYNTHETICROCKS, asked us to be a part of their first anniversary party, we were happy to support! Created in October of 2006, out of an addiction to other blogs, Isreal, (a.k.a. DJ nOn), and his cousin, Diego (a.k.a. Diktivek), have been focused on getting their music blog out there, and now, their first event!! Seems Mexico City is all the rage these days!

They’ve set out to make it one of the best parties of the year featuring a live act by “Laser” (FR), SyntheticRocks Djs (Freestyle), Dann Kalter (Rockets) + Chuck Pereda (Imeca). If you are in or near Mexico City, make sure you hit up the SYNTHETICROCKS fiesta at ‘Pasaje Americas’, since unfortunately, we can’t be there!! Cheers guys! x

Jay-Z Resigns as President/CEO of Def Jam Records

I think I need to add Jay-Z to my “Top of 2007 Forward Thinkers” list along with David Byrne and Thom Yorke. I think I also should add a category – “Music Industry Buzz Words of 2007″ and list – NEW MODEL, FIRED, RESIGNED, ARCHAIC, and FLAWED.

2008 is going to be a damn exciting year!

Nabbed this from

Rapper/entrepreneur Jay-Z is stepping down as president/CEO of Def Jam Records after three years with the label.

Says Jay-Z, “It’s really about trying to invest in the future, trying to invest in maybe coming up with a new model. Because going in hard making records with artists and throwing those records into a system that’s flawed is not exciting for me. It’s not the music; people ingest music the same way. It’s just that the model of selling CDs has changed. So doing things the typical way is not in the best interests of anyone and not exciting for me. My whole thing is, how do we invest in the future? If everyone is committed to doing that, then I’m sure there’s a deal to be made.”

Jay-Z will continue to release his own music through his label Roc-a-Fella, which is under the Def Jam umbrella. Ella ella ella ey ey ey!
