The Lady Foursquare’s Boots

The Lady Foursquare, a recent Chicago transplant originally from the Bluegrass State, has been doin’ thangs like a mad woman in the past couple of months. Her style merges loopy techno with electro, glitch and sometimes breakstep to create something that is incredibly unique and weird while remaining playable.
She’s given us a pair of bootlegs, the first of which is a little breakstep retake on some classic Public Enemy complete with a glitched out version of the original tune lodged in the middle. Interesting side story about this remix. When I first met her, we were in her studio and she played the tune for me and I was like, “This sounds like something that Trouble & Bass would do.” and She goes “Who’s Trouble & Bass?” So I played DTL’s remix of Curses! - This is The Way and she was shocked to hear that people were making stuff like that. So in essence she came upon breakstep completely on her own which I think is totally awesome.
The second tune for download is her incredibly interesting take on Art Of Noise’s Beatbox using the classic break and the not so known ending piano jam to create a huge breakdown builder. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the big boys started using this one at the peaks of their set because this one builds it up big time. And I can’t forget the classic Loletta Holloway vocal rant over it that really gets folks going. Be sure to check out her upcoming release on Angel Alanis’s ASquared Muzik called Xcite Bike and an upcoming collaboration between she and I, as well.
