EMI: Fighting for Scraps?
The Guardian Unlimited, NME and Pitchfork have reported that, up until last week, a Google search for “Radiohead” led users to a search results page with an ad placed at the very top reading: “Radiohead – New Album ‘Rainbow’ now available as boxset.”

screen grab, careof Guardian Unlimited
Despite similarity in name, Rainbow is not the same as In Rainbows, Radiohead’s latest album/wrecking they swung at the house of cards known as the Record Industry. It’s a box-set of of Radiohead’s albums recorded while they were still signed to EMI. Curiously, the it’s being released at the same time and price as In Rainbows.
One could say the ad reaffirms suspicions that EMI is using the box-set to compete with Radiohead–however, EMI’s subsidiary Parlophone have chalked it up to a “data glitch.”
..Next thing you know, the industry is gonna claim the dog ate their revenue.
