Nelson Lead The French Indie Rock Revolution

With the recent resurgence of Daft Punk, and disco house cohorts Justice, one doesn’t really hear much about the French indie rock scene. But its alive and well, and it comes in the form of Nelson and their album “Revolving Doors” on Diamond Traxx. Ironically, Diamond Traxx is the label owned by Benjamin Diamond (Benjamin Cohen), the singer & the co-writer of the worldwide hit, Stardust’s – “Music Sounds Better With You” produced with Alan Braxe & Thomas Bangaltar. I for one am guilty of assuming that Diamond Traxx output consists of just that, tracks – the filtered, electro, disco house kind, the likes of Roule or Crydamoure. However, upon further exploration, I’m pleasantly surprised to find that while acts like The Eternals, have the electro covered, indie rock is well represented by Diamond himself, as well as Hushpuppies, and Nelson. Dance and rock, perhaps Diamond Traxx is the French answer to New York’s DFA?

Nelson formed just 4 years ago in Paris, but have already garnered accolades as masters of the up and coming French indie rock scene. Influenced by Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, David Lynch, and Monty Python, their sound is reminiscent of Bloc Party, Radio 4, and Interpol. (But with more personality than Paul Banks.) And in keeping with the spirit with Parisian fashion, they’ve got that covered as well. The boys are lookers and they know how to dress the part. Sonically sound and visually appealing, they are destined to make waves on the musical landscape. “Revolving Doors” is available now in France and other parts of Europe, and one would expect, a North American release is soon to be heard.
