C-Mon & Kipsky Hit U.S. Soil with Sole

After two years of intensive touring (from Amsterdam to Istanbul, South by Southwest to Eurosonic), C-Mon & Kypski (Simon Akkermans, Thomas Elbers, Daniel Rose, and Jori Collignon) decided to give their fantasy a helping hand. With unshaven beards they left with a camper van full of ideas and recording equipment to Morocco. Over a period of four weeks they created what is now their third and latest album ‘Where The Wild Things Are’, taken from the famous children book from 1963, written by Maurice Sendak.

C-Mon & Kypski unite several genres into their own sound, afrobeat, electro, rock, and psychedelic sounds. Until now C-Mon & Kypski did every dirty job on the album themselves, but on their new album they thankfully make use of the services of rappers Sadat X (Brand Nubian, USA) Pete Philly and Kain (The Last Poets, USA) saxophone player Benjamin Herman (New Cool Collective) The Amsterdam Klezmer Band and the rockers of Voicst.

“It really is a C-Mon & Kypski album, but some influences have decreased, some added. Especially rock plays a big part whereas we didn’t use guitars before. Most important, we don’t cut and paste anymore, we used less samples for this album and played a lot more instruments ourselves. We’ve grown in creating a sound.”C-mon

“Where The Wild Things Are” preview feat. Sadat x

C-Mon & Kipsky will be playing a few shows throughout NYC’s CMJ marathon, and to celebrate being in the U.S., they brought us a gift that’s not available in the States. What is that you ask? Well, let us tell you . . . a pair of Nike limited edition Dunk Low Premium ‘C-Mon & Kypski’s’ which they designed themselves to compliment “Where The Wild Things Are”.

And you know us, we like to share, so we’re giving them away to one lucky TM’er. Just let us know you want’em by entering your name in the handy little form.

Charlie Fanclub

CharlieFanclub

Charlie Fanclub comes to us from Derby in the Midlands. I stumbled upon his cool, dirty grinding track, “Jet”, a few weeks ago and thought it to be a worthy share for all! “Dirty Blonde”, (which you can hear on his My Space) will also do the dance floor justice with it’s stompy, repetitive, clanky, drum and whistle beats!! I almost felt like marching with a drum for a second towards the end! HA He has a cool designer, Remix Alone, that has given him a superb look, (as well as Chicago’s Vyle a nice touchl!) so definitely keep an eye out on this one!!

Charlie in brief: “I started making music with my Playstation about 9 years ago, after growing up on DJ’s like Judge Jules (believe it or not) and have been using p.c software and programs for about a year and a half. Dj’s that got me into the electronic scene, Dave Clarke (especially world service 1), Felix Da Housecat played an unbelievable essential mix on radio one around 2000 I think. Tiga’s American gigolo CD and the early Hell, Terence Fixmer stuff also stands out for me! Plus the legends that are Guy Man and T. Bangalter. Apart from making music I watch loads of movies and travel around DJ’ing, checking out some of my peers. Love the French and the German techno scene has to be by far the best! I wanna play in Berlin!”
