KMFX Remix Sessions
Once upon a time, in the 90’s, Florida was the epicenter for North American breaks. Before nu skool breaks were born, pioneers like Dynamix II, DJ Icey and Rabbit In The Moon were creating a style of funky, electro breaks based on the Miami bass and early electro sounds of the east coast. Once the sound was established, a new wave of Florida breaks heroes emerged including the two gentlemen who are featured in this post; DJ Fixx and Keith MacKenzie aka KMFX.
As breaks progressed into the new millennium the Florida scene seems to have dispersed sending many of its champions scattered across the country. Keith MacKenzie, owner of Illeven Eleven Records, landed here in Chicago and DJ Fixx, owner of Bottom End Recordings, has landed in Buffalo. The new found distance hasn’t stopped them from working together, though, and whenever they find themselves proximal it becomes an endless bootlegging session. For your consumption, here’s two products from their most recent marathon bootlegging session. First, a pretty straightforward boot of Santi’s hit single “Shove It”, that was posted on this blog a while back. I’m so pleased they made this because i can now play this tune out without having to chill the whole vibe out. Second, they put forward a wonderful rework of Alex Gaudino feat. Crystal Water’s “Destination Unknown” (the one with the video featuring the hottest marching band ev4r that was all over the 4chan /gif/ board for a while). The break in this one really strips the cheesy from the original and replaces it with awesome. Behold the awesomeness.
